well Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos are both out but Real has Raul coming back for this match Real 2 - 1 Bayern but I really dont have any clue, all i know is Real has a lot of big names
do any of you know anything about about soccer!!!?? well real 1 munich 5!! no way it will probably be a one goal win for either side or a tie. Two good teams with bayern in better form but real with better players so should be close.
Well, Bayern has already put four or more past Real three times. They are scared of us, call us the "black beast" . 9 wins in 14 meetings Bayern's proud record against Real 23.02.2004 | Real Madrid against Bayern Munich is a true classic of European football. The most successful clubs in Germany and Spain are meeting for the 16th time in the European Cup/Champions League, and the fixture has been a massive draw ever since the first clash almost 28 years ago. And the records show precisely why the star studded ensemble from Spain never enjoy taking on their Munich counterparts: of 15 meetings to date, Real have come off second best on no less than nine occasions, losing seven of their eight trips to Munich so far. The first European Cup meeting took place on 31 March 1976: Bayern had won the prestigious trophy twice in a row before stepping out in front of a 110,000 crowd at the Bernabeu for a semi-final first leg. The home ranks included Günter Netzer and former Bayern star Paul Breitner, although the latter was ruled out of the first leg with injury. Real took an eighth-minute lead before goal-getting legend Gerd Müller equalised for a final score of 1-1. The visitors' convincing display drew praise from Breitner, who dropped by the Bayern dressing room to tell captain Franz Beckenbauer: "Congratulations! You were surprisingly good today - but I'll be back for the return." But even with Breitner in the side, Real missed out on a place in the Final. A 78,000 crowd in Munich on 14 April 1976 saw Müller fire a brace to knock the Spaniards out of the tournament. Reported the Münchner Merkur newspaper the following day: "Bayern teach Real a lesson! Munich were more intelligent and physically in better shape." Moving on to 1987, the sides met again in the semi-finals - and once more it was Munich who progressed to a Final showdown. Udo Lattek's Munich line-up included Augenthaler, Pflügler, Brehme and Matthäus, all later to claim World Cup winners honours. A 75,000 crowd gathered at the Olympic stadium on 8 April 1987 and witnessed an astonishing evening as Real were sent packing 4-1 despite the presence of superstar Butragueno, before a Roland Wohlfahrt own goal at least allowed the Spaniards the consolation of a 1-0 home win. As if drawn to each other like magnets, the teams were rematched in the following year's competition, with the Spaniards bent on revenge. Nonetheless, Munich coach Jupp Heynckes' side should have settled the quarter-final meeting at home, but threw away a 3-0 lead established by Pflügler, Eder und Wohlfahrt in the last 180 seconds, as Butragueno struck on 88 minutes and Sanchez at the death to peg the score back to 3-2. A 99,000 crowd then saw Real exact the revenge they craved, knocking Bayern out on a 4-3 aggregate. Twelve years now elapsed before the clubs met for the first time in the Champions League at the second group stage. The Spanish fans came up with the nickname 'The Dark Beast' for Bayern at about this time after Effenberg and company comprehensively dismantled a team including Raul, Roberto Carlos and Clarence Seedorf. Munich triumphed 4-2 in Madrid on 29 February 2000 with goals from Scholl, Effenberg, Fink and Sergio, a stunning and fitting way to celebrate the Bavarian club's centenary two days earlier, before Real found themselves on the end of a 4-1 hiding in the return on 8 March 2000. It was Lothar Matthäus' final appearance before seeing out his career in New York, and striker Alexander Zickler played the game of his life with a second half brace to seal an outstanding victory. However, the Spaniards turned the tables when it mattered just two months later as the sides crossed swords again in the semi-finals. Despite Munich's 2-1 home victory, Real held a 2-0 advantage from the first leg and eased through to the Final. The Reds of Munich exacted ample revenge the following year as they eliminated the holders with home and away victories at the semi-final stage. Giovane Elber struck the only goal in Madrid on 1 May 2001 before putting his side in front eight days later in Munich. Figo equalised but Jens Jeremies struck for Bayern to claim a famous 2-1 victory. El Pais said: "Real fall to Bayern saviour Kahn, probably the best keeper in the world!" Before the 1-1 draw in Munich on 24 February this year, the most recent meeting between the European giants took place in 2002 at the quarter-final stage. On 2 April at the Olympic stadium Bayern struck late through Effenberg and Pizarro to claim a tight 2-1 victory, but Madrid were always in control of the return and were good value for their 2-0 victory. Excluding the current tie, Bayern's nine wins in 14 meetings have only been enough to progress to the next stage on three occasions, the Spaniards achieving the same result on just four victories. But Real have never scored more than twice against Bayern in a single match, whereas the Reds have put four past the Whites on three occasions. It is a fixture with a glorious tradition, set to be enhanced by the latest duel for supremacy. Bayern's European record against Real Played 15, won 9, lost 4, drawn 2, goals for 26, goals against 18 In Munich: played 8, won 7, drawn 1, goals for 20, goals against 8 In Madrid: played 7, won 2, lost 4, drawn 1, goals for 6, goals against 10 http://www.fcbayern.de/en/club/archive/news/13039.php?fcb_sid=ac35b28bd4f3fac215f2db60c77a6605
Just wanted to give this a bump, since the game starts in about 5 minutes. Good luck SJC, I hope you heart doesn't get crushed like mine did yesterday with Porto's 90th minute goal. My prediction: Real 2 Bayern 1
Damnit, after seeing the first half, I don't have a lot of hope... Bayern is too indecisive today. Why did they not show one angle on TV where one could have seen whether Zidane was offside in the situation before he scored? Ugh. I'm afraid Real will win it. It's Bayern's own fault for not having started aggressively enough, like they did in Munich. Once they got angry, they had big chances in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
I never shed a tear when Bayern lose. They just lack creative players. Rely too much on long balls to Makaay. Hey, at least this year you went out of the group stage.
Both games together, I think Bayern was the better team - with one exception - Zidane. That guy makes all the difference. Watching him play is like hearing a Bach concert or looking at a beautiful painting. I was highly disappointed with Ballack. 19-year old Schweinsteiger showed more balls than Ballack. Ballack was basically hiding all game. Bayern's two most creative players - Scholl and Deisler - were out due to injuries. Salgado should have been sent off after his second hard foul that was worthy of a yellow card.
Scholl and Deisler versus Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos.. Hmmm.. I told you they wouldn't win it SJC. I honestly thought they'd beat THIS Real, but they couldn't even do THAT. Overall, Bayern have been mediocre this season and didn't deserve anything. No league, no cup, no champions league, am I correct? Real will go on to win this one if Ronaldo comes back healthy.
Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos were both playing in the first game (even though Roberto Carlos should have been sent off before that lucky free-kick, for hitting Demichelis in the face). I hate smartasses like you who come out of the woodworks after the game and say "I told you so". Real cleared on the line once and Casillas saved two dangerous shots, too. Bayern did not play well today, though, so it is deserved that they did not make it to the next round. Bayern still has a chance to win the league, but it is not looking very good this year, Bremen looks better.
Well SJC, it looks like both of our team will have a rare season without a trophy, unless Man Utd can beat Arsenal in the FA Cup semis.
I missed this thread, SJC, and I don't like miss an opportunity to disagree with you about Bayern! At least you haven't lost to the winners. I can't see Real, with their defence, beating teams like Arsenal and AC Milan over two legs. Man Utd is out, too. It's been a good round of games for me!
Comin out of the woods? I told you they wouldn't make it in every soccer thread started. Bayern could've thrashed Real in the second game, and they SHOULD'VE. Clearing on the line and good saves are NOT luck, they're just signs of a good team. If you had, for example, hit the post on a one-on-one, then you could say it was bad luck. If you were wrongfully ruled offside, then you could make another case as well. The worst defense in the entire Champions league, and you couldn't manage a goal. Note: Carlos' shot was anything but lucky. Someone with his history of scoring freekicks, and you label it "luck"? Come on, it was a product of the power he put on the shot and Kahn's clumsiness. "Luck" had nothing to do with it. Man U, Juve and Bayern are out - it's like heaven.
I agree with your sentiments in the rest of the post, but actually, Roberto Carlos has never scored regularly from free kicks. It's just that when he does, they're spectacular.
And to think that you could have at least preserved your reputation as someone who at least knows soccer, Sane...after you already trashed it with regards to basketball and politics/religion...too bad. You manage to contradict yourself easily in your own post (as usual) by saying clearing on the line and good saves are a sign of a good team (thereby obviously referring to their defense) and then saying they have the worst defense in the entire Champions League. Congratulations. That shot by Carlos was not even powerful at all, Kahn just totally messed up. Anyway, the one thing where you are right is that Bayern was too passive and should have pushed much more, and that it is their own fault they did not score. Real's defense is really not very good.
