If this doesn't deserve its own thread, mods please merge. But it may be worth a new thread in order to lessen the somewhat misleading info regarding Lowry and Scola's contracts.

Lowry's TRUE contract is 3yrs/$18.25 mil(5.75 mil first 3 years + $1 mil buyout for 4th year), plus team option for a 4th year for $6.25.

Scola's TRUE contract is 4yr/~$36 mil + the guaranteed part of his 5th year. The details for the amount of guarantee has not been disclosed, but given other contracts in the past, it is unlikely to be more than $4 mil, and likely less. Which would at most give Scola's total contract value likely no more than 4yr/$40 mil.

    Team Options
for their last years can serve 3 purposes. First, if they play up or exceed their contracts, the Rockets can simply exercise the option. Second, if they suck, the Rockets can let them go. And finally, the last years can be used similarly to a trade exception, since the contracts are not fully guaranteed. I would imagine using the option as a trade chip is more likely with Scola, as he'll be 33-34 when the Rockets decide on his option.

Although this doesn't change the amount of money per year each player makes, it does shorten their lengths, which may dispel some fear among fans that we're locked in too long to these two guys.

    And finally, the obligatory

Morey knew that both Scola and Lowry will help out for the next 3 years for sure.

That's the window of opportunity right now. Now let's get Yao signed!!

Thanks for the post, I think it's a worthy thread. I had read several times that Scola's deal was 5 years guaranteed so I probably would have stuck with that. Four years sounds just right to me, good for him and the rockets.

Why in the f*** would we sign Yao without seeing how he holds up this season? This year is make or break for the Rockets and Yao. I don't care how much money he brings in, if he gets hurt again it's time to move on.

He might not want an extension.

In honor of @larrycoon, who surely taught me this: No-trade seekers must have 8 years, 4 w/same team, MUST be new contract (NOT extensions)

Anderson should be moved for extra cap space if nothing else to resign Yao and Brooks by next season.

Only 180K of Anderson's 2011-2012 salary is guaranteed. He'll be trade bait by then if he hasn't been traded already.

Thank you for this table. I really hope Shane Battier can have a great year so that he will earn another contract where both parties can benefit. Let go of jefferies already. gosh..

Scola's starting salary should be $7-8 mil, assuming the Rockets gave him the normal 10.5% raises every year. you're likely off by a mil or two, but not a big deal.

Also, some of you should keep in mind that if we cannot flip our expiring players into a star player, there's good chance that Les will make Morey unload a bad contract. If we can unload Battier or Jeffries, we'd save quite a bit of money. But I think Morey wants to keep them for now in case they're needed to match salary in a big deal.

we all know that we can no longer call Les cheap.. if he's willing to spend money on these guys and pay the luxury tax, he means business!

I think we got the impression that he was cheap before because Dawson had no clue how to spend money!

Les has confidence in Morey just like we all do cuz he's had more GOOD moves than bad. His bad moves didn't cripple the franchise.

Steve Francis signing was low risk-high reward and drafting Dorsey was low-risk high reward since they were short contracts, with not a lot of money tied down. I cant really think of any other bad moves that Morey has made...

    100% confirmed on Lowry.

The only unconfirmed aspect of Scola's contract is how much guaranteed on the 5th year. But given the way Morey(or really any other GM) do things, I gave an estimate, with $4 mil being the high end. Otherwise, given normal 10.5% raises, his final year's team option would be about $11 mil.

    thank you meh.

I knew the scola contract wasn't 5 years completely guaranteed. I figured 4 years, with a team option on the 5th, with some money guaranteed.

Both Lowry's deal and Scola's deal were fair. Morey didn't overpay and he didn't under pay. Wise management decision to lock up both players. You can feel good about giving that kind of money to those players. They play hard. You know they will earn their paychecks. I don't see us regretting these contracts in a couple years.

    According to Feigan:

    http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2010/07/signed_sealed_and_delirious_sc.html

So, the guarantee is variable. I believe we will be rooting for that number to be high.

Incentive structure based on games played and team success, not conventional stats. Kind of shows what the team consideres important.
