Many of those who were born on the day Mike Scott threw the no-hitter to clinch the division have a hangover this morning.
I still recall getting out of high school football practice and staying in the school locker room until 8:30 watching game 6. I'm surprised you recall it, though. I hardly remember the 81 playoffs at all.
Nah, I think I was already born... I guess Scott did this 21 years ago. I didn't watch an Astros game until the great Mark Portugal was firing torpedoes from the mound.
quick question...anybody go to the last texans game agaisnt Indy? Does anybody know what the song was playing everytime there was a kickoff?? What about the other songs that play a lot in the stadium. I know they play that ac/dc song thunder struck. I want to download those songs cuz they get me hyped! thanks.
Anyway... I was in marching band practice at the time and we (the drumline) told our moron band director that we were going to go practice on our own inside. Actually, we went inside and listened to the game.
At 16 I skipped school and drove to that game. My little brother was 4 at the time. Now he is out of school, married, with a kid on the way. It all makes me feel old.
ah crap! for some reason i was thinking it was in 1981. anyhow, i was 9. i remember watching astros games. don't think i could have been that huge of a fan of baseball at the time since i don't remember a damn thing about the no-hitter.
I was a ripe 14 and watched the game at home on HSE. I still remember the Scott toss to first and jumping...almost hitting the (I believe Giant) player as he ran past him. Then Charlie Kerfield and his conehead. That was fun. What a playoff series with the Mets....that DAMN Lenny Dykstra...whatta smug little punk. I still hate him. Seems like over 20 years ago........Oh yeah....it is!!!!
My Dad was there and he says it was so loud that the rafters were actually shaking. He said it was kind of scary.
I was 11 and that year of sports is what got me hooked. Rockets in the Finals. Astros in the LCS. World Cup in Mexico.
Well, I was 9 at the time. Honestly, I didn't really get into sports other than the Oilers until we drafted Hakeem. Not really sure why.
1981: the Phillies, Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, etc. Vern Ruhle, Nolie in his first million dollar year, Terry Puhl, Bruce Bochy (iirc), Cruz, Knuxie, Joe Morgan. Good times. '81 and '86 were two of the great NLCSs of all time, and our Astros were participants (losing participants ) in both.
I was 10 in 1986 and remember the whole thing. My homeroom teacher was a huge Astros fan and let us bring in little portable tvs to watch the games that started in the afternoon.
I think you are thinking of the 1980 season. I was at game 5 against the Phillies. I missed the next day of school because I yelled myself hoarse along with everybody else in the dome. You know the crowd is buzzing when people are chanting Art Howe's name! Does anybody else remember that funky batting helmet he had to wear that year because of a broken jaw?
I was there and your dad is right. The dome was definitely and literally rocking. And hardly anyone left after the game was over. Kerfield and I think Larry Anderson walking around with coneheads. It was awesome.
