    Resign Jim Jackson long term

With many anticipating the Rox won't resign David Wesley I'd like to see them resign Jim Jackson with a deal that would allow him to retire as a Rocket and thus give him stability which his long career hasn't allowed him to experience and a veteran, reliable high percentage shooter from the perimeter for the Rockets.

Jackson was also a favorite of JVG for his work ethic and professional demeanor with I think that lack of ball movement and fast break fluidity being a need that forced the team to trade him. I think he'd be a good mentor for whoever the team drafts at the 8 spot and for Head, Swift and the rest of the younger Rox. I'm also for the team signing Mike James with the MLE (another thread I know) but my point is bring in as many shooters as possible this offseason.

Does anyone think JJ would be wiliing to return to Houston as long as he's promised the team won't dump him again?

The last thing we need are stopgap retreads. It's kind of a bummer that a guy with his solid abilities couldn't stick with a team, but that's not the Rockets' problem. Pass.

Did you notice that after trading him, we went on a gigantic winning streak?

The problem was the JJ plays SF ...as does TMac. Since TMac is more versitile, he moved over to 2-guard but that isn't his natural position. Once we freed TMac to play SF and got a comperable player in Wesley, it freed up the whole offense.

Resigning JJ would be a to revisit a failed experiment.

    Good insight McGrady.

I dont think it would be bad idea, and I think it would be good for the Rockets if they could sign him for cheap,

We all know defense is not a problem with JVG we need shooters, JJ gives us that. (He can also be a backup SF if something happens again.)

He'd be good for small bursts of time.

Jim Jackson is very overrated. The guy has been a part of the some of the worst offenses in NBA history. He's not an efficient scorer, and he's turnover-prone. He doesn't have the foot speed/quickness to be a good perimeter defender at this stage in his career, and he's not a particularly good rebounder either.

Signing Jim Jackson would pretty much be a horrendous move.

He could be a good scorer off the bench if he signs cheap.

But I don't know about signing him long term. Why would the Rockets want to do that? There appears to be very little market for him right now. Its not really like we're in a bidding war. LOL.

Oh I also disagree on the long term signing, he's way too old.

long term? I'm amazed you got even 1 person to semi-agree already.

The guy is done. He should be given a 10 day contract cause he probably can't help for much longer than that.

And what has he done to deserve us giving him a "we won't dump you" deal? He doesn't need to retire with us.

The sentiment of going for a high-percentage shooter is good, but I think we'd all prefer one who isn't 80 years old and one who will play more defense than JJ can at this age

Is he even going to play this season? He should have been considering retirement several years ago.

Very noble idea from you. 7 years starting at around 8 mill a year should be just compensation for trading him to NO a few years ago. We owe it to him. Get it done Rockets.
