Allen, Seattle Times Thursday, March 30, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Ray Allen took no joy after the NBA issued a $10,000 fine to San Antonio's Bruce Bowen after he kicked the Sonics guard in the back on Sunday. However, it appears Allen may have helped persuade Stu Jackson, the NBA's vice president of basketball operations, into assessing the fine. "When we landed in Memphis I called Stu and asked him if he saw the game," Allen said after Tuesday's 98-97 victory against Memphis. "He said he watched it that night, and he didn't think much of it. "He said I'm going to watch it again. I told him I was just sitting there and he kicked me in the back and something more should have been done than him getting a technical foul. Then he started watching it, and he thought I was on his ankle." When asked about Bowen's penalty, Allen said: "What he got was about right."
Bowen's a cheap defender. B/c of his reputation, refs give him a TON of slack. I think everyone should be like Allen, call in, and force Bowen to stop is antics.
Agreed. It's not like he shouldn't have gotten fined. I know the groin and the back are two completely areas, but Dennis Rodman got fined for kicking a cameraman, so why shouldn't Bowen get fined for kicking a fellow player. It's no different than a punch.
bowens the dirtiest player the league has seen since malone/stockton...he got what he deserved...anyone remember his superkick to wallys grill?
Bruce Bowen was just trying to do a Bruce Lee kick on the court. He should be praised, instead of getting fined for entertaining the crowd.
As has been said in the other thread, if it were Artest, he would have been suspended. I hope the refs start calling a foul everytime Bowen shoves/grabs/pulls the player he's guarding on the perimeter. If they did, Bruce probably wouldn't even be in the league.
Yeah RA is a bit of a cry baby, but not because of that recent incident with Bowen... Bowen IS a dirty player, and he deserved that fine, if not more...
His reputation, his tactics, his energy, his overall defensive presence usually all add up to a miserable night for the opposing team's leading scorer. Think about having to guard top 25 NBA players night in, night out. This is his only role in the league and he does it better than anybody else. He's the absolute ideal role and team player that any NBA GM would be kidding themselves by saying they wouldn't be thrilled to have him on their team.
You've never heard people call Artest dirty? Superstars cry about him the same way they cry about Bowen. They get frustrated by effective, physical defenders that get inside their heads. This is also the same guy that broke some of MJ's ribs.
Bruce Bowen is a dick, but he locks up anyone on the other team pretty much. He's actually a very big reason they are so successful.
