I saw this live and was surprised nobody posted it here. They both got double techs, but IMO Allen should be suspended for at least a game for this cheap shot. People have been suspended for far less. And I'm tired of the league looking the other way when the Celtics do crap like this. The nationally televised game between the Cavaliers and the Celtics was mostly uneventful, as Cleveland turned the game into a blowout from the very start -- except for this one particular play involving Ray Allen and Anderson Varejao. The two got tangled up after a free throw, before Allen ended up on the floor and, on his way up, delivered a nice, dirty elbow directly to Varejao's groin. The funny thing is (as you'll see in the following clip), Varejao didn't really seem all that bothered by it. Varejao clearly didn't do anything to deserve that elbow. The refs appeared to be shielded from the play, which is probably why the double technicals were handed out instead of Allen alone getting the whistle. I think if an official had seen it originally, things would have gone down differently. An elbow to the groin on a dead ball? That's an ejection, people. And I wouldn't be surprised if the league handed down a fine or suspension for it in the near future. As a side note (and as Jeff Van Gundy noted after seeing the replay), how impressive was Varejao's virtual non-reaction to that elbow? I don't throw the term "balls of steel" around casually, but it certainly seems to apply here. http://nba.fanhouse.com/2009/04/12/video-ray-allen-cheapshots-varejao/
lol awesome. varajao didnt even flinch. and there goes jackson at the end being the one with the unique opinion...what an idiot
I actually liked Jackson's innuendo. If you think about it, Varejao's not flinching there is kind of a mark against him.
Ironic how a flopper who is probably one of the finest floppers to play the game had absolutely no reaction nor reflex reaction to an elbow to the groin. He deserved it, but too bad it didn't hurt him.
Lol, I found Varejo just walking around with his arms up for about a minute trying to look scary, very funny.
hahaha.. Varejao with quick reflexes.. what a block! anyway.. ray allen should be fined for that.. thats not the place where you fire an elbow..
It looks like V put his legs together in order to prevent any damage. As much of a flopper he is, he'd probably beat up an old ray allen. I like how ray allen let's the ref pull him back so easily celtics and their fake toughness at it again
Do you think any of those wannabe tough guys celtics could actually do anything if they got in a fight with someone else? I would of loved to see these guys pull this crap against some of the tough teams in the past before Stern tried to clean up the imagine by big suspensions, fines and crappy officiating.
Lol Jackson always does this, whether its Jon Barry or JVG. I can't imagine how annoying he is to work with.
ray allen is by far my favourite celtic. unlike fake tough guy kevin garnett he goes after bigger guys who really deserve it.
Good job by Ray Allen...That was a very well deserved elbow to the groin. Varejao does flip him to the ground before that and then raises his hands like he did nothing.
It's not a hard hit. Varejao wanted to forece feed his nuts to Ray Allen. Ray Allen just raised his elbow to stop Varejao.
