    OF Willie Mays
    OF Ken Griffey Jr
    OF Roberto Clemente
    3B Brooks Robinson
    SS Ozzie Smith
    2B Joe Morgan
    1B Wes Parker
    C Johnny Bench
    P Greg Maddux

No complaints other than 2B.....Roberto Alomar should have gotten it in my opinion. He was turd, but he was a slick fielder.

You'd think Bill Mazeroski would have an argument.

He won a gold glove in 1994 when he won his MVP award. Mark Grace and JT Snow were winning all the gold gloves at 1B during Bagwell's prime. I'd say Bagwell is probably one of the most underrated defensive first basemen of our generation.

The problem with gold gloves is that there are 22 of them given out every year, so writers really don't care about the award as much as MVP or Cy Young. Once a player gets the reputation as a good fielder, he always seems to be at the top of everybody's ballots, so certain players win the award almost by default. Also, most players generally don't work on fielding that much. They'll spend hours in the batting cage working on their swing, but as long as they're passable, they generally aren't concerned with winning gold gloves. You don't hear about any breakthrough fielding years from players very often.

In my view, Mays, Brooks, Ozzie, and Maddux are locks. All others can be debated.

Just to clarify, writers don't vote on the gold gloves, players and managers do. And it is a fact that most of them don't take it seriously and often times a team might have a staff aid complete the ballot for 5-6 guys and just nominate all the same people.

Derek Jeter is an outstanding hitter. And when it comes to playing his position, he's an outstanding hitter. He has piss poor range but is pretty steady with what he gets to and has a strong arm. But he really doesn't get to much.

I think if you read my posts I'm pretty objective on sports subjects. I have no problems dealing with the fact that players and teams I may or may not follow are not perfect and are not always the best at what they do (or even good.)

Jeter is an interesting case. Is he overrated? I say he's actually underrated now because people are so convinced he's overrated that they don't realize how great of a hitter he is. Defensively though, there is no question that he is overrated and it is an absolute joke that he has won 3 gold gloves.

But hey, the gold glove is a joke of an award to begin with. Rafael Palmeiro won it in a year he played like 25 games.

granted i don't know much about baseball, but it seems to me that bagwell should have been on the ballot.

Probably not to be honest. Guys like John Olerud, JT Snow, Don Mattingly, Keith Hernandez, Doug Mientkiewicz, and Ernie Banks rank above Bagwell. Not to say Bagwell wasn't good, but those guys were the elite of the elite. That Keith Hernandez didn't win it is a testament to the fact that fans should rarely be allowed to determine an award.

one of the most awsome dialogues ever on seinfeld

KEITH: Ya know I hate to brag but, uh, I did win eleven straight golden gloves.
    ELAINE: [chuckles]
KEITH: I wouldn't have brought it up but since you mentioned it.
ELAINE: Ha, I didn't mention it.
KEITH: Well I won them anyway.
ELAINE: Well so what. I mean you played first base. I mean they always put the worst
player on first base. That's were they put me and I stunk.
KEITH: Elaine. you don't know the first thing about first base.
ELAINE: ha ha well I know something about getting to first base. And I know you'll
    never be there.
