How would you rate the point guards in this draft? Which one would best fit in with the Rockets (not necessarily the best PG, but the best point guard to add to the Rockets roster)?
Of the PGs in the draft, I like Devin Harris who's likely a lotto pick and Chris Duhon who may be a late first-rounder/early second-rounder. If Duke does well, Duhon may rise. I could see us trading Francis for Chandler and their pick, which we could use to trade down for Harris. Harris has strengths similar to Heinrich except for shooting. If we don't do anything so bold, I do hope we can trade for Duhon, perhaps couple our two second rounders for a high second-rounder if Duhon's still available. I think Duhon has the right type of skills (defense, passing, ball control) to backup and play alongside Stevie at point.
Don't care for any of the college PG's I've seen in this draft. I do like Nelson though as a 3rd guard type of player. There's some HS pg's who should be good in a few years.
JR Giddens will be a top 5 pick in a year a or two. He is a SG but I think he will make a run for Big12 Player of the Year next season.
Hands down Chris Dujon. Defense, pass first, high IQ, hits the open 3. Pray he falls in the second round.
With a name like that, atleast spell the guys name right. Duhon. That said, I hate him and all bluedevils. Continue.
John Lucus. He can flat out ball. Super quick and can pass and shoot. His stock will rise after Oklahoma St. wins the NCAA Championship.
Nelson certainly looked quicker, more physical and with better court vision--overall clearly the superior player--if you judge the whole game rather than the last 30 seconds. I like Jarred Jack--a younger, quicker, better shooting, better handling version of Duhon.
LMAO...so what did you leave out that Jack has in common with Duhon? Playing in the ACC? Not much else. He'll be better. Nelson was pretty impressive to me. I won't be surprised to see Lucas in the league. He's been balling with NBA players since HS.
Ben Gordon's the best point that will be in the draft (other than the high schoolers who are impossible to guess about). He's playing sg at UConn, but still gets 4.7 assists per game. Great shooter too.
Lucas may be an okay college player but there is no way he will play pro ball. He can't defend anybody and most of points come from spot up shooting. He seems scared to drive in the lane and a PG has to be able to drive on the next level.
Relatively big, strong and athletic 1's that know how to use their bodies well. Excellent to fantastic defenders and finishers. Not great shooters, they both also look first to set up their teamates though neither has phenom court vision, both can also increase their scoring when neccesary. You don't see ANY similarity??? I do think Jack probably is better already. He pretty much has most of Duhon's skills in a little bit more explosive package and has potential to be a much better scorer on top of being the steady PG leader and top notch defender. The only thing Duhon has him on is experience--I have little doubt Jack will be better down the line. But again, I think they have as many similarities to each other as any other college PGs I can think of to compare them to this year.
I think the comparison between Jack to Duhon is like comparing any starting D1 PG to another. Of course athletically they are similar, but specifics? Thing with Duke players is that most of them leave already maxed out on their potential. I still think Duhon has room to improve, but I could easily see him getting drafted in the second round, hanging around for a couple of years and then disappearing to Europe. Jack is only a sophomore and has much more potential as you said. He only started working on his jumpshot last summer, he's more athletic, plus he has a little bit of history on his side with Ga Tech vs. Duke PGs. Duhon is a pesky defender and has experience, but has always seemed overrated to me.
Nelson did have better court vision. Can't say Nelson is quicker. Lucus looked quicker to me. But I never said Lucus was better than Nelson. And I did judge the whole game, in fact I been following Lucus all year. I follow Big 12 Basketball real close and have season tickets for the Texas A&M basketball team. So I have not only seen him play in the Tourement, but have seen him play in person.
Sorry... I haven't seen Devin Harris play that much, but Jay Bilas seems to think he'll be a great pro. I respect his opinion more than most TV guys, but he didn't stand out to me. Good college player, but just doesn't seem NBA caliber to me. At least not as a starter. I do remember this sick alley-oop he caught towards the end of the season though.
I was not challenging your view of Lucas. I just think he has outstanding steady college PG but not pro PG written all over him. Further, it looked like Nelson could get by him (given the usual advantage of offensive player, Nelson could probably get by any college PG 1 on 1) and break down the OSU defense, but Lucas could not do the reverse nor break down the StJoes defense. That wasn't specific enough. I agree with you Jack has more potential, but I still see them as far very similar players than most D1 guards--even other good ones discussed in this thread like Lucas ot Nelson
