along with wesley person for Ratliff, Rahim, and Dickau. http://www.nba.com/blazers/news/Blazers_Roster_Moves-99272-41.html
Good trade for both teams, with the edge going to Portland. I wonder if the Hawks will be able to resign Sheed. We should at least offer him the MLE. The Hawks were stinking it up anyway, so they should be happy with a big reduction in payroll. Portland gets a legitimate center and SAR can play the SF as well as Sheed.
Portland picking up some serious contracts. Atlanta gets like what 23 million off of their cap next year?
SAR is a waste... tell me how he's EVER made a team better? At least Rasheed had a few playoff runs when he was on good behavior. Regardless... both players are s**ting away their careers.
This makes Wallace a good candidate to sign with a contender in the offseason since it's doubtful he'll be back with the Hawks. Portland gave up on the cap room, but they got a pretty good deal if Theo Ratliff can give them something.
Kind of odd for Portland since they traded a PF playing out of position for another PF that will have to play SF. Plus as others have said they took on 2 max contracts.
When does Theo's contract end? Right now, the trade looks like a good one for both sides. I'd say that the Blazers got what they needed, pretty good quality guys who are also good characters, and the Hawks get some massive cap relief this offseason.
Atlanta needs a center now. Offseason trade of Cato and the trade exception to Atlanta for Rasheed in a sign and trade? Don't SAR and Zach have the same game? Will they be able to play together in Portland?
Stoudamire, Anderson, Reef, Randolph and Ratliff is a nice starting 5, assuming then can find some chemistry.... although they are taking on contracts, this is a much better deal for the blazers than anything the Knicks were offering.... damn how much will the Hawks be under the cap this year, but damn they have no young talent to really speak of.... that is going to be a long rebuilding process for them... reckon the bobcats might do better next year...
Hawks still have Nazr. While they probably wouldn't mind Cato, his contract is too big and too long for a team that's sole hope now is rebuilding through free agency. I hope the Blazers don't establish any chemistry. If they successfully mesh SAR and Ratliff with their other starters, they could very possibly get back in the playoff hunt.
Don't know if you'd consider Jason Terry young, but he's their building block right now. They also have Stephen Jackson. Their backcourt is reminiscient of Franchise/Mobley maybe 2 years ago.
this is the current Hawks salary situation Rasheed Wallace ............ $17,000,000 Terrell Brandon ............ $11,100,000 Jason Terry ................ $8,333,333 Alan Henderson ............. $7,682,188 Wesley Person .............. $7,700,000 Nazr Mohammed .............. $5,000,000 Chris Crawford ............. $3,000,000 Boris Diaw ................. $1,021,080 Dion Glover ................ $1,000,000 Stephen Jackson ............ $1,000,000 Jacque Vaughn .............. $813,679 [minimum, counts $688,679] Obinna Ekezie .............. $688,679 [minimum] Travis Hansen .............. $366,931 Sheed, Brandon, Vaughan, Glover, Ekenzie, come off the books at the end of the season and Stephen Jackson has a player option not including Jackson, that leaves them with about 26 million dollars in salary.....which is not bad considering how high they were before this trade 64 million which was the 7th most in the league...
