@tinman i should have been on there right behind @J.R. . And where is @MadMax ? I have high hopes for this pod.
it was truly sad vernon quit on the team, one of my favorite rockets ever....lost that bag, lost his career....we may have three peat with vernon on the squad. we needed him to guard payton, stockton.....Whose to say he couldn't have still situationally started along with clyde? so much pride.
I was going to share this myself and while it's all fun and games, Vernon clearly misremembers some of the stuff - especially around 94-95 where he acts like he was still there for the WCF where Dream killed D-Rob and this whole MF this and MF that just really turns me off. He comes across as quite ignorant and I know he was never the sharpest tool in the shed, especially when asked about specifics he just "uhms" and "you know, ****" his way out of things, but man this was rough. Was kind of sad to hear his relationship with Carl Herrera was never the same after he hit him with a dumbbell - and crazy to hear how bad it was - and he was fine with that since he didn't want to be friends anyway....I feel in general with Vernon he's still playing a character at times. The Sixers stuff and that was brought in to keep AI in check was funny though.
I love how Vernon uses “That motherf***er” to refer to 5 different people in the first clip. Not always clear which petson he is talking about either, lol. I think most of the time it’s Rudy, but it’s unclear.
Vernon is a rough guy with a lot of flaws for sure, but I think he's a fairly authentic dude. What you perceive as a schtick is sometimes how you have to live in response to your environment. I feel like I know old dudes who talk just like him when they are comfortable around you. If anything, Vernon probably needs more of a filter. I'm guessing your observation reflects more of where you are from/the people you are exposed to more frequently.
Not disagreeing with you - just noting he is who he is. I don't think he's playing a rough character - he IS a rough character.
Especially with Kenny falling off a cliff the next season. You can see from Vernon's time as the point in Phily he could have transitioned to the 1 and or off the bench as the 1/2 behind Sam. All of this led to Matt Maloney
