Of course, but we cannot afford him. I think I saw one estimate of 14 million per year. Too rich, but wish he would come home....
it seems logical for his own career advancement that he would opt out. maybe if he thought the Sonics were getting Oden he might consider staying - but with Durant he knows he'll lose alot of the limelight. any of us would love to have him, but its all pipe dreams.
his agent on fox 26 said something like if he wants to go somewhere he thinks he has a chance to win, he can do that. but i dont think he will come here. we all know what happened to the last two players who came here to win. Anderson and Bonzi.
could rashard sign a backloaded contract? EX: he is paid 1 mil for the first year and then like 16 a year for the duration of his contract? would this type of contract work?
We have the mid-level exception and that is it Salary Cap Gurus...can we sign a player to a contract (like $14MM that Rashard will want) if we only have $2MM of cap room and just pay a luxury tax? I am under the impression that we cannot...but would like to know If that is the case, then threads like this should be locked. If I am wrong (hope I am), then of course I am all for getting him (though we need a PG/PF more)
You can't. Once you go over the salary cap, you're restricted to your mid-level exception, lower level exception (if its available since it comes every other year) or a sign-and-trade. Obviously the latter would be the only possible option.
I doubt hes mad at the Rockets. Last year, Rashard came to our school and I asked him some questions too him. I asked him if he wants to play for the Rockets and he said he would love to but his contract is too long. I also asked him about why Nate McMillian left and he said Cause of the money. If he's wants to win he should definently come to Houston.
No. The CBA does not allow that. This isn't the NFL where you backload contracts to spread out the signing bonus, thus ensuring low cap numbers for the first years. The Rockets has a chance with a sign&trade. But we'd be giving up at least Battier, Sura(for salary match), and some other assets. Like our 1st pick or Head. Basically, Battier is our only tradeable asset right now because Yao and T-Mac are untradable.
Yea, if the league decides the rockets do not have to pay luxury tax because he will command a minimum of 90mil over 7 years. Dude where do you live to actually think we have a shot with him?
Even if we could afford him would he play PF? He's big enough but he played SF for the Sonics, we need a PF not a SF and I was wondering if he ever expressed any objections to playing the PF position
Since he opted out, Lewis is unrestricted and could take the Rockets $5.5M MLE. Highly doubtful. If interested, the Rockets could try to put together a Sign and Trade package (of players currently under contract) that interested the Sonics...which would surely include Sura's expiring and next years' first. It may be possible to interest Rashard with a $10m start if you extend it for the max number of years (6). It's an interesting triangle...how much over the LTax will Houston go...what's the lowest start $ Rashard will accept...can the Rockets put enough on the table that the Sonics will SnT. Or can another team put more on the table? In many respects it's on Rashard, but the Sonics hold the cards for the SnT.
all the NBA websites link all the good free agent players to the Knicks, please god, just let them all sign with us so sports websites will stop sucking off New York sports..
for 14-15M a package of Battier, Alston, Snyder, and Head would work. imo sura's contract would not be appealing to seattle. (Spanoulis) Lucas (NBDL) McGrady (Draft) (NBDL) Lewis (NBDL) (NBDL) Juwan (Hayes) (Novak) Yao (Deke) (NBDL) To stay under the cap, NBDL talent would be required to fill out the roster. That doesn't look like a contending team at all.
Would the SOnics be willing to take of Juwan for a couple years if we gave up a 1st round draft pick? And maybe 2 2nd rounders?
