I get the feeling Rashard is still angry about that Mirsad Turcan thing...

"The one guy in the Seattle locker room who you might think benefited from Paul Westphal as coach is Rashard Lewis, the rapidly blossoming 21-year-old, 6-10 forward. He started late last season and retained his small forward slot this season. But when asked about any regret for Westphal's firing Monday, he responded with a terse, "That's the game. I didn't get any more opportunity from him than anybody else did. We weren't winning, so he was replaced (by Nate McMillan)." When asked about the edge in his approach, he said, "I learned this was a business on draft night (the hometown Rockets had promised to take him with the 16th pick in the first round), and I'll never forget that. It's a business, and I'm always going to treat it that way." He ended up going 32nd overall to the Sonics, while the Rockets took Bryce Drew, whom they dumped on the Bulls before training camp for conditional draft picks. Lewis is averaging 16.9 points and 6.8 rebounds, and is sixth in the NBA with 31 threes. You'd think he'd smile a little. "

    outlaw,

I my opinion the best move in our history.

I would've much rather had Hakeem Olajuwon than Michael Jordan. I preferred watching Olajuwon's game to Jordan's. And I was subjected to watching much more Jordan than I would've liked to.

Jordan didn't win until Pippen came, and who's to say we would've gotten him, or a player that would've complimented MJ? We sure didn't do it for the Dream.

The worst move of all time was losing Lucas because we signed Rick Berry at the end of his career.

I'm not saying we should have not drafted Dream. There was that whole Sampson to Portland proposal that would have worked. I dislike Jordan as much as the next true Rockets fan so I will agree with you. How about instead of passing up on MJ then passing up on Barkley.

Imagine if we had drafted Ralph and Clyde in 83 and Hakeem in 84. then traded Ralph to Portland for the 2nd pick and gotten Sir Charles in 84 too. The Big 3 playing together from the beginning would have been tough to beat.

In retrospect, not getting Jordan is still the biggest "mistake" the Rockets made. Getting Jordan could've given the city of Houston a sports identity. One this city currently lacks.

Letting Derrick Cheivous go. But seriously letting the Pattersons ever run this team, that was the worst move in Rockets history.

Not picking up any quality guards in 96-97 was a real mistake, as was going with a rookie backcourt in 97-98. All the draft garbage is all hindsight.

"The worst move of all time was losing Lucas because we signed Rick Berry at the end of his career."

That was not the Rockets doing. The commissioner's office decided that Lucas was "fair" compensation for the Rockets signing of Rick Barry. I strongly suspect that the Rocket's would not have signed Barry, if they knew it meant losing Lucas.

By the way the Rockets getting Lucas was a pretty good trade at the time, Joe Meriweather and a 1st round pick to Atlanta for Dwight Jones and the number one pick in the draft which they used on Lucas.

    Dreamer,

We could had both Jordan and Dream because Portland wanted to give us the 2nd pick that year for Sampson. At least we didn't get Sam Bowie.

Olajuwon was the better pick. We went to the finals in our first year. Give Olajuwon a few more years with Drexler or a "good" Sampson and we win at least six championships. I still think Olajuwon is on an even par with Jordan.

that was hakeem's 2nd year. i think Hakeem has as much talent as jordan (hard to compare since they played different positions) but jordan's desire to win is unmatched.
