Lewis will be on 610am (The Bench) tomorrow morning at 9:00am.

Since I don't have access to a radio during those hours, will someone who listens to the program share what will be discussed to the rest of us on the BBS?

If someone can call in to the show, will he/she ask if Lewis has any inclination of coming back home?

    Thanks!

If somebody gets their call in, you should also apologize to him, on behalf of the Rockets.

My girlfriend still grills me on this very subject when it comes to my being a Rocket fan.

I heard most of the interview, the best part atleast. They asked him if he had thought about returning to Houston this for next season. Lewis replied with that he has thought about it and it would be nice to play in front of friends and family and that he had the playoffs coming up and is still on Seattle and wouldn't say much else. But did say he would talk to his agent after the season and he knew the Rockets would probably want him.
My feeling about this interview was that he will probably leave Seattle and that Houston is very high on his list. He did not come out and say this but sometimes you can get a feel for what these guys are implying.

In that draft the Rockets had different needs. They liked Lewis, this everyone knew!

But, Barkley was ready to retire, Hakeem was visibly slower, and Pippen was on the Rockets wish list. It was now now now and win. Lewis was a project, he would get no playing time.

Drew was the best point guard left in the draft. Dickerson was a huge steal in the draft, and the Rockets just loved Mirsad's play and rebounding. However Dickerson was supposed to be gone by the Rockets eyes, but he was still there and the Rockets got him. Drew was really the Rockets supposed first pick but they got Dickerson and Drew a real plus. Then it was the Rebounder or the Young guy. You know who won that one.

Then that prick scares at the tought that he may not play because of the lock out. He plays in Europe angering the Rockets. The Rockets got rid of this fricken asswipe and they got a free draft pick.

Poor Lewis, he should have always been a rocket!!!!!!

But this would be a great team:

    c-Lewis
    pf-Williams
    sf-Anderson
    sg-Mobley
    pg-Francis

Lewis needs some weight. Willimas too. OK, not too realistic but this would be the top five players on the Rockets for next year.

Come on Lewis sign with Rudy.

uh vince no offense but thats the whackiest lineup ive ever heard.

lewis plays SF and some PF. not Center.
our lineup of 11 guys should be

    PG Francis/Norris
    SG Anderson/Mobley
    C Cato/ maybe a draft pick
PF Kenny T/ Carlos R- or if not carlos a draft pick
SF Walt/ R. Lewis, Maybe a draft pick

im not saying we will get 3 draft picks 2 at most.

Bullard, Pig Miller, and drew if we dont move him will be bench warmers.

boy would i love to get Rashard Lewis though. wow he has SKILLS. our frontline would be awfully big/ powerful/ athletic.

lets hope he isnt a young man with a lot of pride and contempt and hate for the rockets who didnt draft him.

frankly we should get a like a big long list of people including family and friends that want to see him play here.

Lewis would be a nice grab for the Rocks, sign him if he wants to play here.

    Thanks RocketSiv!!!

Even though I think it would be great to get Lewis, I am not sure how realistic it would be. If Lewis decides that he wants to return to Houston, I am quite sure that he wants Rudy to promise him a starting position, or at least 30 min a game. Will Rudy do that? I don't think so. Apparently, Rudy is quite happy with the Wizard. With the way Wizard's been playing, it will be hard for Rudy to justify a demotion for Walt.

The sf & sg position are pretty much occupied by Williams, Anderson, & Mobley. Where will Lewis get his minutes? If they fit Lewis in, someone will be unhappy with his playing time.

Only under one of the following circumstance will I see Lewis fitting in:
    * Lewis plays mostly as a PF
    * Walt is willing to come off the bench and only play 20 min a game.

It is good to see that he has forgiven (at least it appears to be) the Rockets for not drafting him.

If Rudy wouldn't be willing to bench The Wiz to get Rashard in here, then he's nuts. Lewis is about to blow up! The ceiling on Lewis is high. "The Wiz" is unlikely to maintain his current level of play.

I still question us keeping Williams past this year. The guy doesn't fit in with our future plans. Is he going to be an integral part of a championship team in three or four years? No, he probably will not even be here. If what Lewis wants is to start, than we should give him the starting job at the three and let him develop on the job (much like Stevie did at the point this year). He would be quite a pickup for our young team.

A guy like the wiz could be very important in 3 years, and could definitely help us win some games in the mean time. Winning breeds more winning, and free agents prefer winning teams also. I believe the Wiz is 30, and shooters can last a lot longer than that. Give the man some credit. There is room for Rashard and the Wiz.

Agreed, but if it takes The Wiz riding the pine to get Rashard here, then I relegate him to the bench with limited minutes. His game is well suited to coming off the bench providing a spark. If he doesn't like it I ship him. I think a young talent like Rashard with sky high potential should take precedent over "Buckwheat's" happiness, if it comes to that. Invest in the future.

How bout this radical approach. You don't GIVE a starting job to anyone, they earn it and they earn their minutes. If a player has less then that much faith in their talent, they belong on another team. When you start giving starter jobs out you kill all desire to earn them. That having been said there is a differance in giving a starting position and giving a man a fair chance to get a starting position.
