Just find it through Sonics official site. What a bad dicision by Rockets management, just like EG's draft. Rashard Lewis (1998 Draft) Lewis was crying on draft night, but the Sonics were smiling. Expected to be a first-round pick, likely by his hometown Houston Rockets, who held a trio of first-rounders, Lewis slipped to the second round and was the last player left in the “green room” by a wide margin. The Sonics selected Lewis with the first of two consecutive picks, and the rest is history. After breaking into the starting lineup at the end of his third year, Lewis has become one of the NBA’s top small forwards and a go-to guy for the Sonics. As a coach, McMillan took the Sonics to the playoffs in 2002. Jeff Reinking/NBAE/Getty http://www.nba.com/sonics/history/Sonics_History_Top_Ten_Front_Office_Finds.html
And we also coulda signed him last year... Yes, I'm the president of the official "salt on an open wound" club.
I guess the Rockets are the only team that missed the boat on Lewis. Hey, if it wasn't for Griffin, we wouldn't have Yao Ming, and you probably wouldn't be a fan of this team tigernet. I wouldn't change a thing because I like the team we have now, especially the Ming, Francis, and Mobley 3 hit combo. I'll draft a star for you though, rather, for this thread. One big star.
I understand some rockets fans don't like this thread since it waste their time. I just hope our front officers can read it, especially the first sentence... What a hurt for this kid. We had 3 first round drafts..
For the last freaking time, we were drafting players that will compliment our big 3 for the final run. One of the players got us Francis and the other is turning into heck of a sg even though he was selected mid second round. Sure, it would've been nice get Rashad instead of Bryce and Turksan, but it didn't happen, stop keep going back on it. One last thing as food for thought, if we drafted Rashad, who probably would've been a garbage player behind Pippen, after his first season. Would we have thrown him in the Francis trade? I say it's very likely.
i cant man every time i see him play i get pissed now only did we not draft him but we didnt even pick him up as a freakin free agent i fukin hate CD!
You act like they have no clue about this. Is this your first year paying attention to the NBA? This story has been told and retold to death. You are acting pretty arrogant if you think you are the only person who knows about this. The Rockets know damn well they messed up by not taking him, but again, every other team in the league passed up on him. I'm sure lots of teams are kicking themselves for passing on Cuttino as he too was a 2nd round pick who blossomed into lottery pick talent. You are the one who needs to understand the situation.
This thread is completely unnecessary. There is absolutely NO reason to rehash previous draft day mistakes. It serves no purpose. Hindsight is 20/20 and every team in the league makes mistakes. Why start a thread about ancient history? Anyone who would do such a thing has to be a fool. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go start a thread about what would have happened if we had picked Clyde Drexler instead of Rodney McCray.
I think it is time a FAQ is put in place. The #1 entry should read: "We passed on Rashard Lewis. Three times. Deal with it. Just don't start another thread about it."
