Well, it can't be the announcing of Vince Carter signing a long-term deal since he can't officially sign a contract until tomorrow (nor can they negotiate a contract until tomorrow), so what could it be?
One possibility is that the Raptors are about to announce the acquisition of Hakeem Olajuwon. If this is indeed the case, I guess the rumours of Vince re-signing with Toronto would also be true since I can't see Hakeem coming here without first speaking to Vince and his intentions.

The Raptors have already had an incredible off-season, and to acquire Hakeem and to re-sign Vince would be icing, chocolate, ice cream, cherries, strawberries and everything else you could imagine on top of the cake.

I wouldn't usually post something of this nature if it wasn't official, but this guy is a moderator and is pretty well known for his following of the Raptors at this board.

Take it for what you will.

Please be Keon and the trade exception. Adios Dream, it was great knowing you!

Does anybody else ever remembering a news conference being called, without some word (info) being leaked to the press?

This is very interesting, if it is true! God, I hope this soap opera is over!!!!!!!

Look, if this news comes out of Toronto first, then Dream is really slamming this city.

I cannot believe Dream would not allow a press conference out of Houston first on a sign-n-trade. Even on a straight signing, I would expect Dream and Fegan to first deal with our media and fans out of farewell respect to match the retirement respect we all want to give him.

This has to be just about Vince.

It is about the 6-year deal for Vince. They will announce he has agreed, and will sign tomorrow.

    Dream is not going anywhere.

I am confused, why can't this be announcing intention of Carter? For it to be Hakeem, this is too fast! FREDTERP

I totally agree, I just hope it's over. Of course I want Dream to stay, but I would rather get on with more important matters (Mo, & Moochie) who want to play here.
Again I hop eit's false, but one way or another I will be relieved when it's over.

is the players role in the time/pplace of a press conference usually the determining factor in its happening??

    Just curious.

Press conference at 3;30, they are talking about it on ESPN board Toronto.

Crispee, another point is why aren't the Rockets releasing info? It has to be that Toronto has made a deal with the Rockets? But still the Rockets will look stupid if they dont release the info first!!!

Could you imagine if they were reporting that they have failed in acquriing Hakeem? That would kill Feagan's leverage, if there is not already a deal inked with the Rockets.

This week has just taken another 360 degree turn.

610 just said "No new news on Dream" according to Dawson. I guess from the groundbreaking or something.

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the board, although I've been reading everyone's posts for the last couple months. I'm a transplanted Houstonian, living in Seattle. I've been a huge Rocket's fan since the mid 80's.

While it just wouldn't be right to see Hakeem in another uni, my support is for the TEAM and the team's future. I think that the Rockets have done all they can for the big fella and he needs to either work with us or he's against us.

It will really suck if this press conference is to announce that the Rockets traded their greatest player ever for a draft pick, etc. We should at least get Keon Clark in the deal, imo.

Anyway, I'm glad to finally be a poster. Thanks to everyone for all the entertainment the last few months.

That was Jeremy Foster. I talked to him for a few minutes today (really cool guy), but I doubt they would've known this morning about any press conference.

If they knew, they sure were mum on it!!!

    Welcome to the board 3fingeredgus-

Off topic questions; What do you think of Seattle? How would you compare it to Houston, as a city? What is the attitude towards Gary Payton up there?

The Rockets wont have a press conference because who are they going to introduce...a future draft pick and a trade exception?

Seattle is actually a very cool city. I don't know that I could compare it to Houston though. I moved when I was 17 (right in the middle of my senior year at Hastings H.S.) to Vancouver, WA. It was very strange going from a 5A school w/ 4000 kids to a 2A school w/ only 1000 kids.

Anyway, after college, I moved up here to Seattle. Other than the weather, I absolutely love it! It's just a little too wet, too often for my bones. Great town to see/play music. I play in a band around town so it's worked out well for me being here. I never had the opportunity to experience Houston as an adult.

Gary Payton- I actually started another thread about a possible trade: Payton/Baker to Portland for Stoudamire/Wells/Davis. It seems that most Seattle fans think of Gary on about the same level as Hakeem in Houston. They love him and everything he's done for the city, but there is some tension right now because he has been a detriment to the team. I personally don't like the Sonics so anything they can do to muck up their chances is cool with me. Make way for Stevie and the gang!!

It may be about that although ESPN reported that Grunwald said the deal with Vince would probably be done Wednesday, not today. That was from this morning.

As for Dream not going anywhere, don't be shocked if he does.
