I created this thread for Hip Hop/Rap fans. I have been listening to rap since the early 90's and recently rap has been saturated with lame artists who yell and scream a bunch of giberish, lacking content and meaning in the songs. I am pumped up because there's a string of solid albums from (Conscious Rappers) ready to come out in the next few months. Which one are you enticipating? If you know of any other QUALITY rappers with up coming releases, please post them here. Common - Be 5/24/05 DMX - Here We Go Again 6/28/05 Styles P - Time is Money June '05 Kanye West - Late Registration 7/12/05 Personally I can't wait for them all to come out...All the reviews I have read on "BE" and "Time is Money" rate them pretty high. Common speaks for himself, and teamed up with Kanye will only make it classic. Styles is an underrated lyricist and has songs with a reggae legend Sizzla, great rapper talib Kwali and other great artists. I also can't wait for DMX because he never dissapoints, the guy is always spitting cold lyrics. Kanye is definetly going to be tight because almost everything he touches is classic.
Where are they playing? I might check that out just to see ?uestlove (the drummer) in action. That guy is worth the price of admission by himself.
I don't know. I bought Styles P. first CD and I was not impressed. I wasn't impressed with Jadakiss's first effort either so I won't be buying anymore of their solo efforts. Kanye's first CD was good although I don't think it deserved the hype it got. The problem I had with the CD is it got old really quickly. But I probably will give it a shot. Once you've heard one DMX CD you've heard them all. Common's CD is the one on your list I believe has the best shot at living up to the hype.
I've already heard the new Kanye West album... I don't think its nearly as good as his first album. His new album is all about 'bling bling' and rapping about how much money he has now. Common's album I've also heard. It's great. "The Food" is going to be a great single.
I haven't heard it but I figured that would happen. As much as he claims to be, he isn't the socially concious rapper he thinks he is. And that's fine with me, I listen to a lot of rappers who are nothing but materilistic, I just get tired of Kanye portraying himself to be something he is not. I still think he is a hell of a producer though.
I'm really pumped up for Common's CD...Everytime I hear that last line in "BE," I just want the song to keep going. Amazing song, really. On Kanye's new album, I don't really like it as much(Though, I don't think the leaks are anything like the real album will be, because some of the songs don't sound anything like the production he's been doing for Common, etc...), but I don't see more than 2 songs that can be considered "bling bling."
Jada's first album wasn't as good as his second effort (with the exception of a few crap songs like the one with Mariah Carrey). I loved Styles' first album, his delivery is off the hook but it had alot of gangsta rap. From what I have read, this second album has less of that. I know his albums follow similar patterns in terms of hardcore gangsta rap in the begining of the CD followed by more enlightened rap towards the end but I think X is one of the best rappers out there. He stays true to where he is from and doesn't rap about the bling bling bull$hit and all that. His voice and delivery is awesome and he actually tells stories in his rhymes. I don't know about all that. I still jam the hell out of that CD to this day and I got it the first day it came out. His rhymes are very clever and flow so well with his beats. It was supposed to be his last but he is under contract for 2 more albums on the Ruffryder label plus he has been through alot of $hit the past year (legal troubles) so he has something to rhyme about now I guess.
