Well, my elderly parents' dishwasher broke down. So I decided to purchase a replacement one, so they can have something. I found a nice one on craiglslist, and the old lady I bought it from assured it worked perfectly. Well, it didn't. In fact, it was just as bad as ours.

    -$100

I decided to purchase a PS3 on eBay for my newphews, so they have something to play with when they visit my parents. I got a "brand new sealed" one, for $270. Well, turns out the seller is a ass hole and stole my money and will not reply my emails and phone calls. I filed a paypal dispute, so hopefully I get my money back, but it could take weeks :(

    -$270

So I lost $370 in ONE day. I consider myself pretty smart, and I have never been scammed before. But twice in one day? Jeez, this world is ****ed up. What happened to honor and dignity? Especially since I'm going into a career which involved helping others, I try to see the best in people. But it's going to be real hard now to do so, especially with this corrupt society. I'm finding myself questioning why I chose to become a doctor to help others, when all the others do is help themselves. :( :( :(

Craigslist is the wild west in terms of buying stuff man, very much seller beware mainly because you don't even have the feedback system that Ebay has, sorry to hear you got jobbed twice!

You should buy my 1997 Rav4. It looks like it just rolled out of the showroom.

that sux...I try to give the benefit of the doubt and see the best in people, but I've gotten burned and well, sometimes you have to be the a-hole...

I haven't looked on craigslist in a long time...i'm too weary of people selling you crap...

When I was a desperately poor college student, I bought an iron for $5 from a garage sale, and it didn't work. I could have bought new for $15, but I was counting pennies. I went back the next day and the people had already moved away. No big loss, but who sells appliances they know are broken? That's pretty crappy.

Well, you should ask yourself why do you enjoy helping people... Is it because you love people or is it for the praise of the people will give you... I also follow a career for helping people, only difrence is I dont get paid a cent... As for your day, I am sorry.... But dont be so down, you only know what has happened so far... Maybe bigger and greater things our coming your way.... :D

I've been wondering that lately, too. Apparently around my apartment area, there have been a lot of break-ins into cars. Supposedly 100 in a single night around the area. I'm pretty close to River Oaks, so it's not like it's anywhere close to a slum, either. That got me to thinking how someone can get into the mindset of deceiving/stealing someone's money?

My sister was jogging along Allen Parkway one day at about 4pm. She was jogging probably an hour, went back to her car (parked along Allen Parkway) and the window was smashed and her wallet was gone. Sure, she shouldn't have left her wallet visible, but what goes through the thief's mind? He walks by, sees a wallet, smashes the window, and grabs it? How do these people come up with these split-second decisions to steal stuff?

It boggles my mind. I guess it could be upbringing, or someone addicted to meth needing money for fix, or perhaps something else. Still, humans do some despicable stuff that I cannot even fathom.

Isn't that the insurance company, not the doctor?

Anyway, sorry to hear that you got ripped off twice. People suck.

One could argue if that medical treatment was cheaper to begin with, we may not need insurance... but it's an entirely different argument for an entirely different thread, so let's not get into it!

Isn't a genuine new PS 3 about $300 from a reputable store? I'm always amazed how much people are willing to pay through ebay, craigslist etc for electronics such as video games and ipods....Hope the paypal refund works out for you. Just a general comment (and based on my experience thinking I'd pick up a cheap used DSI or IPOD -- and being surprised at the secondary pricing).

$100 for an appliance is a bit of crapshoot. Think of it this way: You helped contribute the old lady's bingo account...when you're a big time doctor you can buy your folks the bestest dishwasher ever....

(I hate being ripped off too).

I pay close attention to the seller's feedback score on ebay. As for buying stuff from craigslist, I ask if I can see the product work in person before giving money.

It happens. Its part of the risk in buying used stuff, especially that you can't test before purchase, and even then there are risks(see DcProwler's sales). What was wrong with the dishwasher?

Anytime someone makes more than you, its safe to assume they are ripping people off.
