So I am looking for a good pair of shoes to work out in and I have to be choosey because I have such a high arch. So I go into Footaction at the mall looking for running shoes. Here are the rows of shoes on the wall display.

HOOPS HOOPS HOOPS HOOPS HOOPS HOOPS HOOPS
    CASUAL CASUAL CASUAL CASUAL running/training

It's all fashion and no function.

I start to ask one of the kids that was working there (I say kid because they were all 17-18 and looked like they just got rejected from a casting call for extras from a snoop dogg video)

then I think, how would they know what I need? I just shook my head and walked out.

Gotta see if there is a RunTex here in Houston.

Bah: Go to Larry's Shoes. They typically have shoe people that can guide you to the right shoe.

My foot doc just sent me to fleet feet last week.

The one I went to was the Rice Village one. You should find what you are looking for there.

Luke's Locker is the best...they people watch you walk & then suggest a pair to fit your feet best.

How weird....I've just really gotten into running in the past month and I was planning on checking out Fleet Foot and Luke's Locker this weekend.

I work at Finish Line and we have a lot more running shoes than FootAction and Foot Locker...

That maybe true but if I ask your average coworker what shoe they would recommend for someone with a high arch that aches when they run but only runs on a treadmill would they be able to tell me what shoe to get? Do they know what pronation and supination are?

    doubtful...

I buy all my running shoes at Academy or Oshman's.

    Foot Action/Locker are terribly overpriced.

That's where you just have to go to a 'specialist' store that specializes in marathon running or whatever running you do. The people at footlocker/footaction/champssports/athlete's foot would most likely know jack squat about things like that. Ask for a running shoe, they'll probably go fetch a Nike one (when it's commonly known that most runners prefer asics or new balance moreso than nike)

If you find that New Balance fits you well, you might try looking at the New Balance store over on Post Oak off San Felipe.

I'm going through my 3rd pair of NB 574s..yenno the 'trendy' New Balances nowadays. But I got into them before it got trendy. All I can say it that it's up there as one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn...that's including $150 shox's and air maxes.
