last night, so I took one of the girls I'm currently seeing out shopping down in union square and parking was a pain in the neck. luckily i found street parking. unfortunately, when i tried to get out later, i scratched the rear bumper and a little above that. a freakin' mercedes benz CLK. the sad thing was the owner of the car was just a few feet away talking on the phone in front of a frozen yogurt store. we went immediately to 3 body shops around SF to see what the price range was to fix it. one was $2700, the other was $2000, and the last one $1800. i really didn't want to bother with my insurance so agreed to just shell out the $1800 and get this over with. and that's not it. i checked my mail this morning and i finally received the ticket for running through a redlight (got caught by the freakin' camera). the price was $446. i've just brought my car up to SF for a month and a half and all this has happened. i think i might just abstain from driving for a while up here. anyways, i just had to rant. the rockets win did help a ton tonight though
i'm just dating a few different girls right now (nothing serious). unless it's a committed relationship, you're free to see others to test the field (well, that's my philosophy anyways). irregardless, $2000+ down the drain just like that pisses me off, since i'm a student. so i'm pissed poor right now.
QUESTION: What's the point of the insurance? Beyond not getting a ticket. Rocket River this is why i know insurance is nothing more than a Scam a way the government filters money from people into 'big business' If you every use it .. they jack up your rates to recoup the costs If you never use it .. . you just threw money away for your driving life Nothing but WIN for the insurance companies Nothing but lose for the working man . .
i actually agree with you. you actually only use insurance when something serious happens. a friend of mine got into a 5 car accident so obviously he had to have the insurance company handle that. beyond car insurance, i rarely use my drug prescription insurance b/c i'm never sick. so you're definitely right.
not really. over the summer, a girl i dated straight up broke up with me by saying, "you're boring." that was back home. what better way to pick yourself up than meeting and going out with new people in SF.
Moron. Go look up the definition of insurance. "free handout" will not be part of the definition. The government is not in conspiracy to prop up a business industry. If they didn't force people to get it, then the morons who think insurance is a scam wouldn't have it, therefore, making the responsible people carry insurance to cover your negligence when you eventually do get in an accident.
Yeah but this still doesn't explain why having one accident makes you a higher risk and hence raises your premium. Unless there's a clear pattern, I think the rate should be relatively stable. In fact, I think it should be incredibly difficult to raise the rate. I've always wondered why something like insurance is allowed to run with commercial interests. There should just be one giant governmetn insurance company for the basics. Insuring your ass and your legs can be left to the private industry.
I don't care how many women you date or how hot they are the SECOND you take 1 shopping you lose. YOU LOSE.
So when the drunk motorist t-boned and totalled my car, forcing my wife and I into the hospital, and USAA covered all costs, replaced the car, and wrote us checks for medical and lost time at work - and my rates did not go up.....that was a loss for me?
So, it sounds like....if the owner of the Mercedes hadn't been standing nearby, you'd intended on just leaving and not letting him know that you caused a $1800 scratch on his car? Is that right?
