Just lost a game that we were winning by 10 with 4 minutes to go thanks to the ref. The ref was the worse ref I have ever seen. Pretty much the foul count was 16 on us the entire game and 4 on them, and naturally I was fouled out. Everytime I drive, and get slapped or pulled, no call. Everytime someone runs past me while I am standing still hands up, foul on me. I exploded at the ref after the game, and get the usual "I call what I see", thats absolutely horrible. In reply I said "Is this why you are reffing such a cr** comp", was about to say "get a real job you d**kface" but my teammates pulled me away. [end rant] any horrible experience with refs any of you would like to share?
I wasn't actually at the match, but my friend told me that our school's varsity team (he was on it) played a university team in a friendly and were beating them badly, and the refs were the two team's coaches, and the Uni ref got so angry that he just called every single possible infraction on my school's team, and in the end the varsity team ended up losing. After the game, even the uni players admitted their coach was biased.
I've been a worldclass as* when it comes to referees in the soccer league I play in. I've had a bit of a reputation. It took me a while, but I finally realized that... 1) They don't get paid s***. 2) They do this because they like it. I guess they're gluttons for abuse. 3) They do it even though they just get yelled at and treated like crap for hours a day in the heat. 4) There is a huge shortage of refs in Austin (and in general). Based on these factors, I've finally decided to be nicer and just keep my mouth shut. Yeah, they make horrid calls that sometimes cost us games. Then I realize...I play in O-30 Premier soccer in the Austin Mens Soccer Assoc. I don't think that call just cost me the World Cup. I'm not sure that it cost me anything at all, so what's the point?
I completely agree with you but sometimes it's hard to just shup up in a game where the referees are horrible. In basketball it's different than in soccer because the referees can make more of an impact in a basketball game than in a soccer game.
Not necessarily. Refs can make pretty much the same run-of-play mistakes in soccer as they do in basketball. They don't lead to free throws in soccer, but making a wrong call to give up a penalty kick is potentially more devastating in soccer than 2 free throws in basketball when you consider the amount of scoring in each. That said, I agree that it's hard to just shut up and take it sometimes...especially when it's clear which way the ref is leaning. The place I play indoor has a reputation of the refs protecting the teams in which employees of the place are playing. In indoor (at least where I play) 6 fouls = a penalty kick (actually 1 v 1 with the keeper).
I'm surprised no one has told you . . . . . DON'T BLAME IT ON THE REFS . . . IF YOU DIDN'T PUT YOURSELF IN A POSITION TO BE F**K BY THE REFS . . YOU WOULD HAVE WON. WHILE YOU MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN SOME BAD CALLS . . YOU SHOULD HAVE IGNORED THEM AND OVER COME THEM . . and still won like they always say when the refs ***** the rockets and they wanna say you are 'babies' for complaining about it Rocket River
I watch enough rockets games to know how bad refs can be It's just that it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when the ref decides the outcome of the game not the players
