This has been a pretty bad decade for no.1 picks.

    My list:
    1.) Lebron

    2.) Dhoward
    3.) Yao

    4) derrick rose

And now it really falls off
    5) Kenyon Martin
    6) Andrew Bogut
    7)Andrea Bargnani

    8) Greg Oden

    9) Kwame brown

    inc) Bake Griffin

Pretty much the only thing I see that can be debated is Yao and Howard could be switched depending on your perspective and Bogut and Kenyon Martin could arguably be flipped. Even then, those are close enough calls that I can't see any heated arguments coming of this.

I dont think Yao and howard should be switched. Yao is constantly injured and Howard just took his team to the finals, I dont think theres much of a comparison there.

I agree with jmwilliamson, it really does depend on your perspective. Yao has turned the Rockets into one of the most valuable franchises in professional sports.

I think that is why the OP listed his as incomplete. He will hopefully climb up that list in the near future.

Cant argue with that. But as far as progress and production of the team on the court, Howard is the clear winner there

That doesn't mean he's a better player then Dwight.
On offense Yao lacks the killer mindset that Dwight has, Dwight gets close to the basket and he throws down. Yao lays it up or shoots it, rarely does he dunk.
On defense there's no question that Dwight is a better defender..

Where does elton brand fit? Prior to the last couple of years, he was a highly productive player on both ends of the floor.

lol @ Dwight's killer mentality to throw it down...

It is the only thing he can do...8 ft shots are out of his range.

Not saying he is not more valubale than Yao though.

He hasn't played so can't put him on the list so inc=incomplete.

Oden should be a little bit higher. Somewhere among the Martin, Bogut, Bargnani group. He is just too unlucky with injuries.

Howard also pulled a Nick Anderson in the Finals. It's a double-edged sword. You can't go wrong with either, but I'd personally place Yao above Dwight Howard.

Yao is the better player when he actually plays, there is no reason to place Yao above Howard IMO because Dwight will always be a bigger presence of defense and you can count on him to play in the big games despite his shortcomings.
