Darren Oliver to Boston for Carl Everett.

My question to Rangers fans is, why? First of all Everett is a head case, second of all, you gave up pitching, something you desperately need. I know Oliver's not exactly good (ok, he probably wouldn't get time with the Rockies), but still......

Maybe A-Rod asked for it.

    GO MARINERS!!!

Everett wasn't a head case in Houston.

Well the Mariners have serious problems of their own, including the fact that Giambi is going to be a Yankee.

Everett wasn't a head case in Houston.

Apparently (from what I've heard), he was a headcase here and that was a major part of why he got traded. Dierker said the next season that Carl was not likely to stick on any team very long because of mental and off-field issues. The difference was that the Houston media is far more laid back and didn't cover it nearly as much.

If Everett chills out, I like this deal. I know the Rangers need pitching, but Oliver isn't a big loss, imo. What a line up Texas has now.

if the acquisition of everett keeps them from spending money on much-needed pitching, then it's idiotic!

That's the beauty of the trade for the Rangers. The Red Sox are paying a HUGE chunk of Everett's contract.

Meaning the Rangers are SAVING money by having Everett instead of Oliver.

This will allow the Rangers to go after a pitcher, as well as having the ability to cut Everett if he acts up, since Bos is footing much of the bill.

Plus, Everett had just come from New York where he was plagued by the child neglect charges placed against him there. I think he toned down his act for a year in Houston simply because he knew he didn't have much slack left with anyone, and if he could clear his name a bit, he might start hitting (and he certainly did). This is what is so baffling to me about Everett. I think he can easily control these tirades he goes on, but he just chooses not to.

I heard or read somewhere that the Rangers are about to drop $100 million on Chan Ho Park so they are after pitching and are apparently willing to be raped to get it.
