Kind of a random thought, but I remember Courtney Lee has been wearing #11 because it has special meaning to him; It was the number his friend wore before he died. When Lee got traded to Houston, he had to change his number because Yao wore #11, he even asked Yao if he could wear 11! Yao politely refused. Anyways, obviously now Yao is gone so why isn't Lee wearing #11? This is a stupid idea and thought, completely just wondering, is it maybe concerning the Rockets wanting to retire #11? This is a just a random thing I've been thinking about, 'cause I know #11 is important to Lee.
They need file in paperwork to the League. I'd guess the lockout didn't allow enough time to do this.
I like Yao so don't take this the wrong way, but does he really deserve to have his number retired? He was the best big man at a time when there weren't really any big men. He never led the team to championship. I guess if they do retire his number it will be because he was/is the best Chinese player the NBA has ever seen, not for anything he did on the court.
He was going to be nominated for the HOF for off the court stuff but he declined because he felt it was too soon. SMH if he ends up in the HOF but can't even get his number retired.
I don't know that it won't have anything to do with his impact on the court. Dude was a great player so don't sell him short(like that's possible ha!) What he did globally for the franchise guarantees the retiring of his number.
YES. Because he was the face of the franchise for a better part of a decade, and he made Houston relevant again, even though we didn't win anything under his tenure. At the end of the day he was an iconic figure and will eventually be getting his jersey retired...
