So, Kobe's officially on the block. Let's start proposing deals to get him somewhere else. I'll start: Richard Jefferson and Jason Kidd for Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher, and Brian Cook. Why the Nets do it: Kidd's not getting any younger, and they don't want either Carter or Jefferson having to carry the team. Kobe and Vince would be an electric wing combination, and Fisher would help keep them together. They still aren't any good up front, but they can work on that. Cook is just salary cap fodder. Why the Lakers do it: Jason Kidd is probably the best player that they could get back in a trade, and they get another soft, but borderline star player to go with him. Between those two, Odom, and Luke Walton, you've got an intelligent, unselfish team that should excel in the Triangle. Why Kobe does it: He's going to a competitive team in the biggest market. Derek Fisher goes with him.
Fisher isn't moving. He wanted to be in a city appropriate for his daughter's condition and got released from his Jazz contract...purposely signed with the Lakers. And I just don't see the Nets giving up 2 guys like that for 1, even if it is Kobe. Especially considering that VC is aging and RJ is their young piece..
acutally, NY has one on the nations leading cancer hospitals so i think fisher would be open to a trade if he wanted to stay w/ kobe.
Its been rumored, that now Dallas is bidding for Kobe w/ anyone not named Dirk. . I know the chances are remote, but that is just nuts. Our division is already bad as is, but with Kobe in the mix... ugh.
I would do it for tmac brooks, snyder and alston for kobe. This would fix our log jam and our team would be the best in the league. Imagine: James Kobe Battier Scola Ming Wells Francis Hayes We would be the best in the lagheu hands down. I donlt know why more rocket fans are not for this!
I posted this same thing in the rockets forum and it got locked. Why does everyone think this is a bad idea? Im confused.....Can someone explain to me why we would not want Kobe over Tmac and a few of our reserves and brooks? He is the best player in the world! Hands down! He might not be the best teamate, and he might not have the best attitude. But he is still is Kobe!
Seems to me the only team that makes sense all the way around is Chicago. They are out of the western conference which to me is key for LA. Chicago could package a number of young players and match salaries via "extensions". LA would probably want Luol Deng and then either Noah or Tyrus Thomas and maybe another player. Chicago could make that deal and the cupboard still would not be bare. LA of course gets 70 cents on the dollar here but that's probably about as good as they can do in this situation. The longer LA waits, the less they will get. See Minnesota.
It was locked because there is a 160-post thread about it already in the Rockets forum active today. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=135723
he's not going anywhere....where is gonna go and have team still competitive? Most teams will inevitably become weaker....Chicago (especially if they have to trade Gordon, Thomas, Nociones, and Deng), that doesn't leave them very much (Duhon, Hinrich, Wallace). A team slightly better than LA, I doubt they'd win the East. They have better chance of making and even winning with the team they have know. The Suns are not going to make the Lakers stronger team or better. Houston is probably one of the only teams that could take him on and not suffer a great fall-off or disparity, because we have so many players now that we need to trade with a T-Mac or Yao to offer. We could trade one of the stars with another player either Bonzi or SF3, and still be one of the top teams in the conference. While, LA would still be about 6 to 8 best team. Even though, I personally think it wouldn't be great for Houston....Kobe is better than T-Mac, but he has too many maintenance issues. If we want to be competitive and try to seriously take the Suns and Spurs out, he's drama issues aren't gonna be helping....he'd defer to Yao on many occasions, while also defer to other players and give up the rock....to Scola, Bonzi, James (or Francis), Brooks, Snyder, and etc. In the motion offense. He won't necessarily be 2nd fiddle player, but he won't be able to go out take 25 to 30 shots a night. He have stay around the low 20s or high teens, but it's all for winning.
Ric Bucher reported that Jason Terry and Josh Howard for Kobe is on the table and that the Lakers were seriously considering it.
