"Even while sprinting in the heat and humidity during drills, sometimes in full pads, Abdullah is adamant about his faith. He will not allow himself so much as a cup of water until the sun sets and before it rises.

“I’m putting nothing before God, nothing before my religion,” Abdullah said. “This is something I choose to do, not something I have to do. So I’m always going to fast.”

I'm a muslim myself, and it's difficult fasting even when your not doing much activities. It's not easy, and there for wish Husain the best of luck through this, he will come out stronger.

I know it is part of the Islamic faith, but it is one of the things I just have a hard time with in religion in general.

Like God with all his might etc, asks folks to give up water and food...just makes no sense to me.

But to each his own I guess.

There's a really good reason for fasting during this month, but I hate talking about religion, especially on the internets. It always gets into an unnecessary argument.

Not to start an argument, but that just seems incredibly stupid. And dangerous. Would "god" really want him to pass out from heat exhaustion and dehydration? I mean its the middle of August

i dont know if anyone has done this before in the NFL...its not like Dream, who i'm sure had a tough time as well, but he's indoors without a helmet/pads, so this is more dangerous....but i'm guessing abdullah has experience doing this in college?

Maybe God does want him to dehydrate. We don't know what he wants. I dislike it when people assume they know what God wants.

This is true faith. I have a lot of respect for people that can do this while running drills and training outside in that heat.

In Islam, is it a request of Allah that you do this or is it a way for you to show your faith to Allah (created by Man)?

Fasting is actually one of the 5 pillars of Islam. Meaning it's something we HAVE to do. Along with the other 4: belief in Allah and his Messenger, making Hajj at least once in your lifetime if you have the means, paying Zakah (2.5% of your savings, if you have any, to the poor), and praying 5 times a day.

Fasting the 30 days of Ramadan is a way for us to have all our sins forgiven and it also does help us become better people (if we truly intend on becoming better people). It's the one month where Satan is locked up and we don't fall victim to any of his whispers to do bad deeds. Anything bad we do is from our own habits and our own will. So, you see how important fasting is to us in terms of working towards Heaven.

I actually look forward to Ramadan because I need a LOT of forgiving.

Anyway, back on topic, props to the guy. I put off all my working out and intense activities until night time when I'm allowed to eat and drink.

It is a command from Allah. It's one of the 5 pillars of Islam, as stated by trustme. Very obligatory if I may add.

So without opening a window for arguments, I suggest these reads:

Fasting Ramadhan: its virtues & rulings

    Important lessons from Ramadhan

    more on Ramadhan

They're really long reads, if you're serious about learning. Most people, including Muslims have that misconception about Ramadhan. They only focus on abstaining from eating and drinking. It's far more than that.

ok I exit this thread now before this turns into the D&D

I'm Muslim and I didn't know Ramadan had started.  How screwed up am I?

Just figure God has better stuff to worry about then whether R0ckets03 has eaten or not.

That's not good man. I recommend you try to change that. It hasn't started yet. But it will this week

Ok, this is probably going to start an argument I don't want to get into, but, why would anyone worship a god that wants them to suffer and die?
