Suns had to give up two first round picks to get rid of Kurt Thomas's expiring contract and he's a much better player than Alston.

NBA player Rafer Alston was busted last night on charges he stabbed a man during a fight inside a Chelsea nightclub early yesterday. The 31-year-old Houston Rockets point guard, who hails from Jamaica, Queens, was accused of slashing victim Wilbert Ashman in the right side of his neck, police said. The alleged assault happened at 3 a.m. at Stereo, a trendy club at 512 W. 29th St., cops said. Alston, a product of Cardozo High School in Queens, was arrested at the 10th Precinct stationhouse when Ashman picked him out of a lineup, police said. Cops said Ashman reported the incident after driving himself to a hospital to be treated. "I'm really upset about it," Ashman's wife told the Daily News. "I can't believe it. I was like, 'Oh, my God, your throat.'" She said her husband was not available to speak. A bouncer at Stereo said Alston and his brother had words with a group of guys inside the club, but insisted no one was stabbed. "I was in the middle of it," said the bouncer, who requested anonymity. "I walked Rafer and his brother out to their car. He didn't slash him." Ashman, 41, of Uniondale, L.I., told police he got into a dispute with a member of Alston's entourage, a fight broke out and the 6-foot-2 basketball player slashed him in the neck. It was the second time this month that Alston, a city playground legend known as "Skip to My Lou," has been arrested for assault. The eight-year NBA veteran was arrested Aug. 5 in Houston after he allegedly spit in the face of a parking attendant. kburke@nydailynews.com
Well, the NY Post says the witnesses never saw Rafer slash the man. The man called police after the fight from a hospital. I bet the club patron thought it was his chance to get rich, when he saw Rafer.
LMFAO. Ouch, I hope that stays true in this case. Although, I already see a new wave of jokes coming in. This will reach "Juwan Howard Sunglasses" status.
the problem wasnt necessarily with rafer running the point. Lets face it, for a starting 5 that really only had 2 "offensive" players, it was increadibly effecient and potent. The biggest problem was when rafer sat and there was no legit backup PG. Skew it all you want and take shots at his fg% and such, but rafer running solid minutes at the point is not necesarily a bad thing... the problem was having NO legit backup. seems like a simple enough concept. About the parking attendant. I never followed up on it much. I imagine rafer got emotional and animated and made some contact but i dont believe it was malicious contact. This is the say guy that kisses and hugs refs and got T'd up for touching a ref on his arm...guess he should have got arrested for that too. Whatever the case, both parties im sure overreacted. about this slashing thing...i dont know. just from what i've read seems like another bogus/overexaggerated claim.
That and making Rafer the third scoring option was pretty horrendous. Again, though, that mostly reflects how poor our offensive firepower was. Make Ben Wallace your #3 scoring option and it'd be just as bad. Evan
You know.....sounds like a few arguments broke out and the man's neck got cut somehow. The story is very incomplete; I'd be very interested to see the full report. Sounds like the so called victim felt blaming Alston would benefit him and his family in some fashion, but you never know. Rafer seems to have credible witnesses that should aid his case, but I'm sure the general public and media will string him up when the story hits the airwaves because he's just a thug any how.
its posted on msn's front page now. PI? Protracted Immaturity Promptly Incarcerated Prolonged Imbibing???
absolutely. He was put in a role that he shouldnt be but he had to be in that position. about the benwallace comment. It's not that bad, but the premise is solid.
yea, but people will find fault in his game saying how bad he was, but it was he that kept the offense flowing. I give credit where credit is due...period. He was thrown into that 3rd option because the Rockets had no other choice. The opposing team left him open, so he took wide open shots....basketball 101 It wasn't HIS fault that management screwed up negotiations with Mike James in 2005. Jeff KNEW that we needed Mike as a scoring option and that's why he was at his door step. CD wanted to play hard ball about a trade clause for someone he JUST traded and the rest is history. Rafer had to step up for a role he was never brought here to do. I enjoyed watching him run a 52 win team smoothing....bad shooting aside
Rafer was so upset after this incident he released several large floating teardrops which bricked off the pavement and splashed onlookers in the surrounding crowd.
