Now that it has been a year, what are your thoughts on this trade?

My thoughts are that it was a great deal. At the time, I was a little sketpical because I thought Rafer was playing well and we were in the midst of a playoff push. I didn't want to lose Rafer at the time, as I didn't know a ton about Lowry and was unsure how good Brooks would be.

Now, one year later, I can't believe Morey was able to pull that trade off. The trade has allowed Brooks to blossom and has given us Lowry, one of my favorite players and a key piece for years to come (unless traded again). Rafer is decent but 33 years old and I doubt has much left in the tank. Also, even without Rafer we were able to get to the 2nd round and push the Lakers to 7 games. I seriously doubt Rafer would have been able to allow us to get any further.

Anyway, looking back, I am so much more happy with that trade today than I was when it occurred and can see the genius of Morey in this move.

I agree. I was not not necessarily against the trade, but I was skeptical, mostly due to the timing. I mean, why would you trade your starting PG when you're trying to make a deep run in the playoffs for the back-up PG of one of the worst teams in the league at the time?...Well, I guess Morey showed us why.
I love what Lowry has brought to the team in terms of energy and toughness off the bench. I was even a proponent of him starting over AB because I thought he could play better with Yao, but AB's evolution has given me pause over this. Nevertheless, I hope we can keep Lowry and he can continue to be a key piece of this team as we get back to contending status.

Or better yet, how Orlando obtained Alston.

I was all for trading Rafer for anything. I'd even trade Rafer for Cook straight. That was a great trade. Rafer was vastly overrated by himself, YOFs, and his coach. With Rafer gone, Rockets passed the first round and AB has developed to a nice player.

Looking back 1 year later? That is too long, one day or one month is long enough to figure it out. Seriously, you watched a few games from Lowry, you knew he was better, but we had to take Cook with the deal, only a year.

It was said best by one of the characters on the movie Dances with Wolves:

    "Good trade"

Rafer is actually playing 27 minutes per game with Miami, and I think averaging 9 points per game which are pretty similar #s to Lowry.

I agree, Lowry is much better, but at the time Rafer was our starting point guard, was playing well, and we were hoping for a deep playoff run. There WAS certainly reason for skepticism.

everyone was worried that time, bcuz we didn't know what brooks was capable of, and we didn't know anything about Lowry, but what can you say Morey is the man.

Just that fact that we got something for Rafer was something to celebrate.

Lowry is young so that also helped me trust Morey because Lowry was just rotting on another teams bench ala Jordan Hill.
