I have been defending Rafer Alston for a long time. The reason I say he's not champ material has nothing to do with his basketball skills. It has everything to do with poise under pressure. The last 2 games without T-Mac when he was required to set up and lead the offense, he has folded under pressure and wilted. He will choke in the playoffs. I hope I am wrong
14-7 w/ T-Mac 0-3 w/o T-Mac All the losses have been in the clutch. I wonder why? Rafer Alston sucks without T-Mac on the floor. Yao Ming is tired, who else would we go to? COME ON T-MAC GET BACK OUT THERE AND WIN US SOME GAMES YAO CAN'T DO IT ALONE THOUGH HE ALMOST DOES.
im just wondering why jvg didnt go to lucas or spanoulis when it was so obvious rafer was struggling. what other coach in the nba would leave an ice cold player out there for the majority of the game?
Rafer Alston BLOWS!!! Rafer Alston BLOWS!!! I dont care if there is already a thread about this.....because it bares repeating!!! We need to ship his ass outta here....we wont go anywhere with him running the point. At one point he had 17 points on 19 shots.....totally UNACCEPTABLE!! He is a turn-over king!! He takes way to many circus shots that dont have a chance in hell to go in. GET RID OF HIM!!!!!!!!!
Because JVG is a pathetic coach. I believe JVG can't coach a championship team. He needs to go, NOW!!!!
like I said in last night's game thread: JVG's insistance on running a short rotation will kill him and his players. If he had used those games where we were up comfortably and pretty much had the win locked down (the rare few that we did) to let the new players play together and gel together, we would have a deeper bench right now. Drafting Novak, bringing VSpan over, and signing Lucas means absolutely NOTHING if you don't develop them. They can't just come into the game with guns ablazing. I have developed a belief that this short rotation is more about JVG trying to save his job more than anything else. "He says he plays the best players out there that gives him the best chance to win". When you exhaust your resources (Yao/McGrady/Head/Alston), what you have left is nothing. That's why you have/need a bench. I do believe now that his shortened rotation is for fear of job security more than anything else. And when McGrady went down, rather than try to throw different players out there, he runs Alston and Head ragged. This is my own belief. Like it or lump it, I don't care.
Rafer: Don't shoot a guarded trey when the clockshot is over 20 and nobody at the post to rebound, you idiot. Yao: Use your elbow to protect the ball. That's why everybody tries to harrass you cuz you're too freakin gentle. Otherwise.. Head: Use your head. Jeff: Think harder.

I don't like Van Gundy. Rafer is plummeting in my eyes, but sadly he's the best point guard the Rockets have right now. The rockets problems are at the 4 and at the point. Hayes is a decent defender and can finish pretty well around the basket, but he is foul prone and does not score all that well. Juwan has been playing well as of late but he isn't athletic at all. Rafer's had periods where he's looked good but he seems to be screwing up a lot lately. The problem is that V-Span's even worse. He runs around lik ean idiot and his 3 ball is even worse then Rafer's has looked at times. Lucas is okay but I mean the guys a midget and a defensive liability. He's good off the bench. The Rockets need a new starting point guard; not V-Span or Lucas
Rafer Alston is good... ...as a backup point guard. It's not his shooting that kills me (although missing the hoop by several feet is never a good thing); it's his decision making under pressure that's so painful to watch. He was completely incapable of getting his team into any type of offensive set for much of the second half, and when Yao finally did get the ball, our spacing was horrible. There is no way the Rockets should have lost this game.
