AM - Amplitude Modulation FM - Frequency Modulation FM - Shorter range, better quality AM - Longer range, poorer quality FM is (I believe) newer technology than AM.
Yes, FM is newer technology, but its been around since the 40's. AM can have good sound quality as well, but many varibles including quality of the radio (antenna & sound processing) and interference from electrical devices (computers, TV's, power lines to name a few) also contribute to what happens on the AM band.
Are you trying to tell me you nailed your mom? Man that took courage for you to say that in this public forum. I applaud your bravery. Was she any good? AP said high.
Weekdays: 610 A.M. Weekends:106.9=The Point. DAMNIT!! My dad told me I'd do this, but I didn't believe him. (thanks DAD)
Plus, there is such a thing as AM Stereo, but, as far as I know, there hasn't been any real interest in implementing it.
Yeah I've got some friends with XM. At first they listened to it all the time, but once the novelty wore off they hardly ever use it now.
I'd like to think of it as paying to not have to listen to commercials. It's not much different than paying for TV (cable), and like cable, it really expands your choices. It's pretty cheap too.
We just talked about XM the other day. I have it now, and I like it a lot. Of course, I no longer live in Houston and the radio stations here are significantly worse than in the city. Plus I live close to the mountains so reception isn't fantastic. Sports radio is basically non-existant here. They have one station but they don't talk about anything but local colleges and vague national stuff. It kind of depends on what you have and what you want.
I can't imagine ever using XM radio in the city, but since I drive to Amarillo every few weeks, I could see it being really nice during the trip as there are apparently only extremely twangy country/western stations between Fort Worth and Amarillo.
