    I'm curious.

Why are racial jokes not funny? And who is truly offended in this day and age?

I mean talking about "good" jokes about language differences are funny.

I went to Bellaire, so I love bugging Jews.

Mexicans in Houston? Jokes are obvious.

Black jokes are typically more sensitive, but why should they be? Funny is funny.

I think every now and then, america needs to lighten up. We have way to many folks here making a living on "outrage." Don't get me wrong. And I'm sure some of you will. I can promise I hate every one of you on an equal basis. I prefer it that way.

I just have noticed when I've said a black joke people are offended, where if I say a jew joke, I'm berated, but it is more ok.

I don't care if you don't know me. But fyi, I worked with a buddy of mine who was black in '00. In '03 he was going through a divorce, so I told him to drop everything and leave. My folks and I helped him out and we lived together for over a year. The sidelining with mazyar worked immensely until he found a wife.

He'll b**** that I'm an absolute slob, but he'll vouch for my friendship. I know I'm a dick, at times. But rarely is it more than playful on here. I'm surprised I'm getting heat now after 10 years.

    Que sera sera.

Everyone is offended by everything. Everything is so PC that we are to the point where we incorrectly defining people. African-American? And it seems to be ok to bash people if they don't know another groups sensitivities.

Personally, it doesn't bother me if someone finds humor in anything. There are certain lines, but its not too often.

That's true, black jokes are more "serious" than others. Like, you'd piss off the whole black community if you say a black joke, but any other would be really funny.

People seem to be scared to talk about black people when talking jokes, it's like, its really funny to "tell" asian people to open their eyes (if you know what i mean) but if you tell a black guy to smile so you could see them in the dark, then they get really mad...like..common its 2009

Racist jokes are the new sex jokes.

It is taboo and only a few comics really go all the way with them. Like back in the day when sex was off limits but Archie Bunker was on primetime.

This is a cleverly disguised "my friend is black so I can crack some racist jokes without being judged as racist" thread.

    I'm of African descent.

Idk if I would use the word "sensitive" to describe my reaction to "black" jokes.

To be 100% honest, I'm not always sure that they are just "jokes". I feel that those jokes are actually the true feelings of a significant number of White Americans.

I think alot of that has to do with the history of race relations in this nation. To be frank, my ancestors were stripped of their heritage and brought here to serve those in power. Alot of the descendants of those powerful people aren't happy that that system went away before they got their shot.

    *sorry if anybody is offended.*

I always feel that if the white people really like to make fun of people, they should keep it between themselves.

I could somewhat follow, if not agree, with you up until this point. This is just an idiotic statement.

So... It's ok for black to crack on whites, but whites can't crack on blacks?

What about blacks that have absolute Zero White friends. It's ok for them to tell any white joke they want? What, whites can't be offended?

    IDK
Some folx maybe upset that they don't have the advantages
    that their Grandfathers had
they will use all kinds of euphemisms and things about
how great their Grandfathers were. . and how much the accomplished
and that if minorities' grandfathers were as productive hardworking blah blah blah
then they would be better off

totally forgetting Jim Crowe and other suppressionary social, political and economic artificial barriers that held the previous generations of minorities down.

When folx say . . .We miss the 'good ole days' and want to go back to when america was a simpler place and a simpler time
    they
basically saying they want to go back to the time when minorites were suppressed and the White Male had every possible advantage imaginable

"Grandpa never had to compete against Smart Women, blacks, Hispanics, Indians, Asains, immigrants on the level that *I* do . . . It isn't fair. *I* don't have his advantage of a totally bias system. So that must mean *I* am discriminated against . . . because if i was not being discriminated against then I would still have the same advantages he had." - the whiney white male [not every white male]

As for racial jokes. . . Fatty - maybe you just don't know how to tell a joke.

I can live with some . . but N-word Jokes. . I am not Happy
Negative stereotype jokes. . . .Be Careful, Ray!

CASE AND POINT: Tropic Thunder - this movie TERRIFIED ME
I was completed disturb about RDJ putting on the black face
He pulled it off. . . it was basically making fun of the hollywood stereotypes of black men in movies as well as the practice of having minorities played by white folx in movies. . . .in short .. he pulled it off

I am scared that some hack will see that and then make a truly offensive
portrayal of black folx then point to that saying. . . WELL HE DID IT . . . WHY IS HIS OK BUT MINE OFFENSIVE
[cause he can't see the difference . . his character is black as shoe polish with big eyes and GLEAMING white teeth eating watermelon and chicken speaking in a mixture of JIVE and Slave talk]

I don't feel I should have to EXPLAIN why I am offended. . I am . . that is all.

I think the long story short is. . . . I don't think as a black people I trust that it is 'just a joke'. If we a bit sensative . . don't say it is not without reason

There is a saying. "You might be Crackin . . . but you ain't joking"
Meaning .. .you mean it for real.

I really don't have as much of a problem with racial jokes as long as you have credibality to do the the jokes. If you go back on comic history you will see there were comedians who was able to thread the line when i comes to racial jokes because one they're act was accepted by the audence which the jokes were name towards, for exaple Robin Williams and George Carlin. The reason their act were accepted were because one they will do the act in a crowd which was the target of these jokes and gain respect and tow the jokes had relevance in content to why these jokes were somewhat reality. People are not stupid we know when someone is attacking us and someone is being humourous.

What is a black joke though?

Fatty: Hey guys, let's get out of here and grab lunch.
Black Friend: Who's turn is it to pick?
White Friend: It's your turn, Black Friend.
Fatty: You know what that means, we're having Fried Chicken and Watermelon!
    *WAH WAAAAAHHHHHHH*

Mexican Friend: Actually it's my turn today.
Fatty: I guess we're having a siesta and not working the rest of the day!
    *WAH WAAAAAHHHHHHH*
