"I ain't white. What world are you living in? I live in reality. They'd never let a black man get away with that.'' --Barry Bonds, asked last week about Roger Clemens' travel arrangement with the Astros. Clemens does not travel to Houston road games when he is not slated to pitch. Editorial aside to Bonds (though I doubt Barry reads MMQB): This is a great example of why so many people dislike you. There's a bit of fundamental difference here, Barry. As an outfielder you're supposed to play most, if not, every day. Clemens is supposed to pitch every fourth or fifth day. If you were in his shoes, teams would line up to make you that offer. What an idiotic, racially divisive statement to make. I also took issue with Bonds' sentiment, expressed last week, that many of his aches are due to all the intentional walks and regular walks he receives. "You're on your feet all day,'' he was quoted as saying in the New York Times. "I don't ever sit down. That's hard. It's a hard job.'' Stop it, Barry. I'm running out of Kleenex.
I prefer Treasury Bonds and Savings Bonds. Sometimes when I'm feeling particularly scientific, I prefer Chemical Bonds.
Barry Bond is a black man who is richer than most white man. But he feels like he is treated differently because he is black. He is almost like Michael Jackson, but worst because he uses race as a factor. I hate african americans who think they are due something because they are black.
And when the truth comes out about his being on the Juice every record of his should have a big * next to it.
Exactomundo. There is no reason a man of his advancing age should be able to hit like that unlike he's heavily on the old Wisterol. Guess in a few years he'll be like this guy from "Fight Club!"
News flash, he IS treated differently because he is black. Since you are Asian (I'm making that assumption based on your handle) I would think you could empathize with his feeling like he is treated differently as a minority.
I respect him as a baseball player who is an amazing hitter. Don't know about the drug issue I am asian and we are treated like all other minorites, but you don't hear us whining about how bad we have it. My parents came here to america on a small ferry back in the 80's and we worked very hard to be where we are today. That's the american dream. Work hard and you can too have what all other americans have. African ameicans have been here much longer and they live in the past too much to even see the future.
i'm not talking merely homeruns. and i'm not talking about just the last couple of years of his career.
What does Barry Bonds want differently because he's black. That is about the third stupid and inaccurate statement you've made so far. Keep going, you're on a roll.
What does Barry Bonds want differently because he's black. Do you agree with Barry's original statement? That Roger Clemens gets to stay home during certain road trips because he's white? The problem with this statement is that it's harmful to the cause of dealing with real discrimination. There's no question that blacks and latinos deal with real discrimination issues, but this isn't one of them. When someone like Bonds makes a statement like that, it gives people who believe otherwise more ammo and more justification for their beliefs. They'll keep making stupid arguments that minorities just complain alot, won't take responsibility, etc, and they'll use crap like this to justify their view. Instead of real discrimination being the focus, this kind of garbage becomes the "face" of the issue. That's why Barry's an ass for making statements like this.
so if the day ever comes up when you are held back for a racial reason, even if you worked hard, are you saying that you would never complain?
