Well fellow Clutchfans, the DD household has a raccoon problem, we live on the edge of the forest, so it is not surprising that they are here, and they don't bother me much, however, those little rascals have crossed the line. We have an old Oak Tree that hangs over our roof, and they have taken to climbing up on it at night and jumping onto the roof, and deficating on our roof, just outside the playroom window. Now, I like a good dump as much as the next guy, but I don't want to see it.....and when our boys have their friends over and they are all looking out the window to count the turds....it is time for action. So, I bought a trap, put some cat food in it........and put it out by the trunk of the tree last night. Boom....Raccoon caught.......I drove him about 15 miles out into the country and released him..... Now I know there are at least two of them, because I chased them one night with a baseball bat after I had gotten back from the DD's weekly poker excursion. My question to everyone here, is how far do you need to take them for relocation, and will that even work, or am I gonna have to simply take the road less troaden and shoot the little ****ers? DD
Why do you seem to hate cats more than Raccoons? And releasing them is tricky as you can't release them on someone else's property legally. Have you considered cutting the branch as a solution to the roof problem in addition to getting rid of the raccoons?
Raccoons are a pain. You should probably shoot one and nail him to your fence crucifix style. That will provide a warning to other raccoons of what will happen if they trespass.
I don't hate cats, I dislike irresponsible pet owners. On the tree bit, yes we have considered it but it provides nice shade, and if we cut that branch it might unbalance the tree, and I really don't want to lose it. DD

My coworker had this problem a year or so back. She said that they bought a BB gun and just started shooting them. She also said you can buy cayote urine in powder form and spread it around and that will stop them from coming since cayotes are the natural predator of raccoons.
The Coyote urine thing is just not true, and it gets washed away by rain......we tried a lot of that already. The BB gun is interesting, did they shoot them dead, or just to annoy? DD
You don't mess with a man's bbq grill in Texas. Maybe in a pansy state like CA it would be OK, but in not in TX.
