Horse crap. There is way more going on in basketball than just "T-Mac had a bad game, so let's take him out." This isn't a video game. You leave your superstars who can possibly win the game in the game. You give them your trust. You let them know that you, as a coach, trust them. I don't care how much they make, egos and feelings play a part in the game. Tracy has won more than one game by getting hot late after a lousy game for 3 and a half quarters; you give your best players a chance to win the game. That is all.
