Chron reports RA already had 9-10 players who will be in his rotation. Who are they? http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5180260.html
1. Yao 2. Tmac 3. Battier 4. Scola 5. Francis 6. Hayes 7. Bonzi 8. James 9. Head 10. Butler/Deke That is my guess......but I would not be surprised if some of those players get moved...especially Bonzi and Head. DD
You forgot Bonzi. Other two I think will be Deke and Luther. Yeah, I know everyone's pretty much forgotten about Head here, but the kid's got the kind of talent that thries in an Adelman system.
Deke will be the defense specialist unless Butler will not perform well in preseason. I am thinking head may will be the victim of rafer related trade if we really need to move rafer.
1. Yao 2. Tmac 3. Battier 4. Scola 5. Francis 6. Hayes 7. Bonzi 8. James 9. Head 10. Deke Agree with DD (wow is it weird to say that??)
I honestly believe Hayes is going to end up on Adelman’s bench warmer list by the end of training camp. I don’t see him fitting into his system all that well, I’d say Scola is a lock for that position as of right now; it’s his job to lose… One thing I noticed in Adelman’s system is that it requires the big men on the team to be able to hit their jumper’s, without that his system doesn’t work too well, and that is why I think Hayes isn’t going to cut it. (Plus Scola has far better passing abilities) Hayes might be in Adelman’s good side right now….but we’ll see after pre-season.
no way hayes gets cut. He may not have a jump shot, but he is very good at cutting to the basket, which is also a major part of the adelman's past systems.
And our backup PF would be.....? I know RA likes big men with jumpers, but he let Scot Pollard play 25mpg, so there's room in the rotation for Hayes.
I smell serious small ball in our future. Yao Scola Battier McGrady Francis ----------- James Brooks Hayes Wells (Deke/Butler/Landry/Harris - dunno which) I see McGrady at the 3 with a mini-backcourt (Francis/James/Brooks/[Brooks]) being a common thing. We'll have to see what they do as far as trimming the roster, but man we're overflowing with options. I fully expect to see Adelman push the team to run the ball. You're deep, you let Yao kick off the break with outlet passes, and you sub with a deep rotation to keep everyone racing full speed. The downside is this blueprint rarely if ever leads to playoff success (see: Grizzlies, Memphis), but if a strong halfcourt game is also implemented for 4th quarter closeouts, we might be a deadly double-edged blade. Evan
DD, don't hold your breath waiting for Head to get moved. The Rockets and Adelman have made it clear that he's a big part of their plans, and he might actually end up getting more play than you think.
That's because you have only seen Chuck play in one system, JVG's. I think he will be fine in Adelman's offense, he has quickness, high BB IQ, and good court vision that will help him adapt. Plus, I am sorry, but there is no way that Scola plays 48 minutes a game, and I really think that Battier is better utilized as a SF than a PF.
One other note, if Harris makes the team, he may supplant Chuck Hayes. He is about the same size, and is a MUCH better offensive player. As for Head, it remains to be seen....I think a lot of players may be moved once the core is identified. DD
I"m just excited to know that Adelman is willing to go 9 deep (with the possibility of 10). One thing I didn't like about JVG was his insistence on playing 6-7 guys per game and seeing everyone sucking wind in the 4th quarter.
Yes, they tacked on that cheap rookie extension to his contract and had nice things to say about him to the press. Clearly thats a ton of commitment right there.
Not even close to being as good defensively (especially in the post), is a worse rebounder and has less basketball IQ.
