J.J. Jackson, One Of MTV's First VJs, Dies At Age 62 J.J. Jackson, remembered as one of the first faces of MTV, died Wednesday night in Los Angeles of an apparent heart attack, according to friends and former business associates. He was 62. Jackson helped define the term "VJ" as one of the first on-air personalities on MTV when the channel launched in 1981. During his five-year tenure with the network, Jackson interviewed some of the top names of the day and was part of some key music milestones. -- R.I.P. J.J.
Well, to be honest, most MTV Fans weren't born when he was on the air. Might wanna check out VH1: the MTV for our generation.
He also is the one that hosted the KISS unmasking event. Oh the memories... VH1 Classics is where it is at now, btw.
Sad stuff...I always liked JJ. RIP JJJ + I watched Mtv from the first day in 81..back when its name actually meant something. btw....Lusting after Martha Quinn is not wrong... and I would have done Nina any day and twice on Sundays.....skank or no.. if Video Killed the Radio Star what killed MTV?
Anybody remember "Live Aid"? Those original VJ's did a fantastic job. What a lineup that was!!! Concert started in England and ended in Philadelphia. Phil Collins plays in England, jumps on the Concorde Jet and plays drums for Led Zeppelin in Philadelphia, all in the same day!!! Queen was awesome!
The same thing that is currently killing VH1. Lack of videos. Every time I turn on VH1, I get one of those shows that has un-funny actors and 'comedians' commenting on pop culture. BRING BACK BANDS ON THE RUN!
