Former President Ford Dead at 93

    Dec 26 11:57 PM US/Eastern

Gerald R. Ford, who picked up the pieces of Richard Nixon's scandal- shattered White House as the 38th and only unelected president in America's history, has died, his wife, Betty, said Tuesday. He was 93.

Ford had battled pneumonia in January 2006 and underwent two heart treatments _ including an angioplasty _ in August at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

He was the longest living president, followed by Ronald Reagan, who also died at 93. Ford had been living at his desert home in Rancho Mirage, Calif., about 130 miles east of Los Angeles.

I'll have to say, I was only in Kindergarden or 1st grade, but I remember our class had a mock election and I remember voting for Ford over Carter. Carter, however, did win the class election as well as the US one. Don't ask me how...or why.

Sad news. I always thought he was a good guy, even if his coordination left something to be desired.

I have lot's of memories about Ford. 1976 was the first presidential election I remember well. Carter led him by ~33% over the summer and Ford roared back to tie him before flubbing right at the end. I remember the jokes about his clumsiness (like getting his arm stuck in a car window), etc, etc. My mother NEVER forgave him for pardoning Nixon. She truly never got over it. I guess a lot of adults (at that time) held that against Ford for a long time.

Producer: Good, now one for next year.
Tom Brokal: Gerald Ford dead today at age 84.
Producer: Now one for if he's shot.
Tom Brokal: Gerald Ford shot dead today at age 83.
    Producer: Add the word senseless.
Tom Brokal: Okay, Gerald Ford shot dead at the senseless age of 83.

Gerald Ford was the accidental President. A decent guy though. He came in at a bad time with a lot of things byond his control. RIP.

Which one of you had the theory about how President Ford's old football head injuries are affecting the economy?

Sad news. I wasn't alive when he was in office, but obviously have read and heard about him over the years and everything.

Presidents always have a special place in the history of our country and it is sad to hear of his death.

Wow, that's immediately what I thought when I read the news. Pretty funny sketch, but at the time I thought it would be weird when the time finally comes...

I was too young to remember his presidency first hand. What I do know is that he did a lot to help the country come out of some very hard times.

    R.I.P. Mr. President.
