R.C. Buford: Parker and Duncan will beat Francis and Yao up

    Sorry to use this title. That is what I have learned from Chinese and American media.:D

    GM of Spurs R.C. Buford is visiting China. He was invited to talk with Chinese basketball fans at sohu.com today. This id something about Ming and Rockets.

    Q:Will Spurs visit China and play some exhibition games?
    A:Because Yao Ming will join Rockets, I think Rockets will be the first NBA team to visit China. We don't have such plans now.

    Q: When David Robinson retires from Spurs, is Spurs going to let Duncan play center or recruit some other center? Will you try to get Yao Ming?
    A:We certainly hope Yao Ming can join us very much. Yet it's very regret that he will play for our enemy.

    Q: What does Yao Ming need to do to survive at NBA?
    A: There are three Chinese players in NBA now. I think Yao Ming is the best one in these three. It's too early to judge his NBA career. But I think he will be one of the best NBA players.

    Q: If Parker and Duncan play with Francis and Yao, which duo is better?
    A:Spurs will win. Rockets is a very young team. We have the horor to play with them last year. Yao Ming will make Rockets a better team.

    Q:What's your purpose of visiting China?
    A: To find the next Yao Ming.

    Q:Have you found the Next Yao Ming?
    A: I will no answer this question. If I tell you, you will tell the lakers. I have seen many talented young players in China. I think more and more young players will become next Yao Ming and play at NBA.

    Q: Do you like China?
    A:This is the first time in my life to visit Beijing. I am very excited. If I can find a player like Yao Ming, I will be more excited.

    Ming said in a latest interview that he "is eager to meet" the tallest BBall player Mingxun Li of North Korea. Li is 7'11"(?). He has arrived South Korea to attend the Aisa Games. This is the photo of Li at the airport.

    Unfortunately, that guy is already 33 years old...it would have been great to see what he could have done in the NBA. Poor guy, he's stuck in North Korea...

    It is definitely a shame he couldn't get in the league... but he wasn't "stuck" in North Korea. He was ready to enter the league, but instead the American State department decided to prohibit him from playing.

    What, were they afraid the 7'11" guy was going to turn out to be a spy? Hiding in the shadows, stealing American secrets?

    He was on that one tv show. I can't remember. It might be Ripley's or something else. Real TV maybe? I think it was one of those shows, but they showed him playing. I don't think he was that good. He would have been another big tall stiff. I think they said he didn't come to America for the same reason heech said. I think he was also forced to serve in the army.

    if george muresan (sp?) could be a good nba player. any 7-8+ player could be. They say he would have been draft if given chance way back when. Probably too old now. shame on the state department.

    The US Govt has prohibitions against US companies doing business with North Korea. Allowing him to come here and play would have been something like allowing an Iraqi to play here.

    When a team lose, I used to hear the coach said:

    "They play better basketball..................................TONIGHT." :p
