My son got an r/c airplane for Christmas. We are looking for a suitable place to fly it. Ideally, we would like a huge (600' x 600' or more) grassy (no landing gear) area without large trees or cement. We live near Rice University. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
I used to see people flying smaller ones over by the Waterwall near William's Tower. It's not as big as you would like, and by now, most of it might be under construction with the Galleria expansion.
Heh, I was about to post a similar thread. Some co-workers and I decided to buy some good RC cars/trucks to race around the abandoned parking lot next to our company. As for your flying question, I have no idea. I'd be scared to fly a model airplane since one mistake means watching your money crash... literally!
Where did the cute Asian girl fly her R/C plane in Rushmore? You might need to get out of the city....or shrink your expectations.
I can tell you exactly where to go -- at the Barker Reservoir (I think it's George Bush Reservoir now), there is an RC Airplane airport. It's across from some soccer fields. They have 3 different flying areas. One runway, one for a hand-held (I guess it's got, like, a string on it, and you spin around and hold it -- they've got a picture), and another type of plane . . .
There's also one at Tom Bass Park which is on Fournace in Pearland. (Beltway 8 and 288) That's like 15 min away from you. It's next to Clear Creek public golf course.
You are right...that is a great place. Pipe, To get there go west on Westheimer...past the beltway, past Dairy Ashford and cross Highway 6. Westheirmer will split just past Hwy 6 right after you pass Best Buy...take the split to the right. It's just a couple miles down the road...you can't miss it. os
Yeah, when you get onto the reservoir, it's past the light. Before the light, there is a shooting range. After the light, there's the airport . . .
