http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/020412.html 32. "He plays the part of a loser to perfection." To the Juwan Howard All-Stars, dedicated to the Tweeners who put up big stats on crummy teams, make fantasy owners everywhere happy ... and pile up the losses. When you think about it, maybe their teams keep losing because these guys are playing big minutes, right? Anyway, here's the list: Antwan Jamison (20 PPG, more negatives than positives) ... Danny Fortson (on pace to lose 1,000 games for his career; he's the anti-Red Auerbach) ... Jason Terry (the Sleepy Floyd of his generation) ... Kurt Thomas (a legitimate fantasy force on a team that loses by 12 points every night) ... sixth man Cuttino Mobley (scoring 21.5 a game, giving up 35 a game on the other end) ... and, of course, six-time MVP Juwan Howard (lighting it up again on a dreadful Denver team). This is a very simple game. Put more points on the board than your opponent. Don't get me wrong Cat is probably my favorite player on the team, but I think this quote describes the entire rockets team. Sometimes, I miss Shandon and Dream because they were the only players last year that even tried to play D. I just hope that this young team learns that they actually have to stop the other teams from performing layup drills during games to win in the NBA.
There is truth in that quote from ESPN but I'll reserve my vitriol after I see a more complete team on the floor next year, when Steve (Meniere's disease, plantar fascitis) and Cat (bum ankles) don't have to play 40 minutes a game each and feel like they have to do everything on the floor. That article is r****ded. Kurt Thomas usually plays out of position at the 5, although he prob'ly stands 6'7" (listed at 7'8", I'm sure). Jason Terry is simply a blessing/curse type of player, gets you points and steals but is really a short shooting guard, and you have to make do with that (Cat also gets burned by bigger guards). Fortson is a good player on a crappy team (sorry to GS fans: you have the talent, but it doesn't mesh). If Juwan Howard made Mo Taylor money, he wouldn't be the media's b!tch. Antawn Jamison? Hmn. Get him to another team and he might shine, but he does fit the tweener mold.
Huh? Opposing shooting guards average 35 points per game against us? I don't understand. What's this guy talking about? This wasn't the same guy who wrote about 40 most tradeable and least tradeable players, was it? These ESPN NBA opinion articles are REALLY bad.
Why is cat consider a "tweener"? I (and I think many others) always consider him to be a 2-guard. When I saw the part where it says: "big stats on crummy teams", the first player that came into my mind is SAR.
Nobody has commented about the "sixth man" comment? Yeah, opposing sg's avergare 35 ppg against Cat...nice. Terry is not a tweener, either. He is a point guard. He has been putting up high scoring, steals, assists, and low turnovers since his move back. The Hawks are over .500 the 2nd half of the season - since they have gotten healthier and moved Terry back to the 1. It is not Antawn's fault that he was drafted to a poorly run franchise that tries immature sg's at the 1, creates instability within the team, etc. Kurt Thomas put up solid numbers when the Knicks were winning. Why does he suck now that the team has gotten worse and his stats have gone up? Howard...maybe he has a point...but was he supposed to put up big numbers as the 4-5th option on the Mavs? This guy is an idiot who doesn't seem to even follow games.
