Hmm, I can get a couple of these. 1. There's one "sport" in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends. What is it? Chess? Is that the reason for the "sport". 5. What fruit has its seeds on the outside? Strawberries. 6. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is genuine; it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle? Well the pear was probably grown in the bottle and the brandy was filled later on. 7. Only three words in standard English begin with the letters "dw." They are all common. Name two of them. Saw this one on the West Wing: Dwarf, Dwindle, and Dwell. 8. There are fourteen punctuation marks in English grammar. Can you name half of them? Off the top of my head: Period, Comma, Exclamation Point, Question Mark, Colon, Semi-Colon, Hyphen, Dash, Parenthases, apostrophe, quotations, Brackets. Eh that's all I got. 9. Where are the lakes that are referred to in the "Los Angeles Lakers?" From Minnesota's 10,000 Lake before they moved. 10. There are seven ways a baseball player can legally reach first base without getting a hit. Taking a base on balls (a walk) is one way. Name the other six. Reach on an error, force out another player, strikeout while ball gets away from catcher, Hit by a pitch... 11. It's the only vegetable or fruit that is never sold frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other form but fresh. What is it? Lettuce? 12. Name six or more things that you can wear on your feet that begin with the letter "S." Shoes, Sandals, Socks, Slippers, That's all I got.
5 - Strawberry 7 - dwindle, dwindled, dwindles 8 - Question, Exclamation, Colon, Semi-colon, Period, Comma, Apostrophe, Hyphen, Dash 9 - Minnesota 12 - socks, shoes, slippers, sandals, skis, skates
wait I think i've seen this before... isn't it the one where when the answers are shown it makes us all feel like complete dumbasses?
4) Baseball 7) Besides dwindle, there's dwarf and dwell. 10) Hit by pitch, dropped third strike, passed ball third strike, catcher interference, fielder's choice and inserted into a game as pinch runner. Yeah, I think I'm reaching by separating dropped and passed third strikes, but yeah, I think there's a difference. 12) Shoes, socks, slippers, sandals, stockings, skis
Oops, for #10, forgot about error. So I guess that could replace either one of the "missed" third strikes, or being inserted as a pinch-runner.
Adding to other answers... 1. Soccer... (at least it's too boring to care about the score... pick uup the damn ball and run with it!) Or the Grand Canyon... 7. Dweeb. 10. Balk. 12. Stockings.
Yeah, I was going to say Boxing for the first one, too. I don't really follow boxing, but my understanding was that the scores aren't revlealed during the fight (and even in the case of a knock-out, the fight would be over at that point). 2. I guess Niagra Falls could be moving backward because of erosion of the rocks that make up the lip of the Falls. 3. I know Asparagus is one, but I couldn't tell you the other one. The rest of the ones I know have already been answered (of course, the first two had already been answered, too, so....)
What's the point of calling a balk then? If a pitcher is called for a balk doesn't the batter automatically take first base or does a base runner get to advance?
http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/official_info/official_rules/pitcher_8.jsp 8.05 PENALTY: The ball is dead, and each runner shall advance one base without liability to be put out, unless the batter reaches first on a hit, an error, a base on balls, a hit batter, or otherwise, and all other runners advance at least one base, in which case the play proceeds without reference to the balk. About 2/3 of the way down the paragraph. The rest that follows talks about what would happen in a balk situation if there was a wild pitch, walk, etc. I still don't see anything about the batter at the plate going to first on a balk without getting a hit or walk or any of the other methods outlined above.
