I usually rarely EVER quit anything. I just let stuff keep piling on until eventually everything gets taken care of...or someone else ends up helping out. Today though, I had enough of working at Fry's, and quit. For reasons I'll write about in my blog later, I was pretty much just ready to snap and decided it was best if I just turned in my cash bag, clocked out, and turned in my badge. So, as of around 1:26 today, I am no longer employed with Fry's Electronics. Well, technically, since I didn't sign a VQ form, I'm not "officially" gone, but, by Sunday I will have been kicked off the system and will be gone for good. Anyone else have any stories to share? I'll share mine when I'm done typing it out.
You turned in the cash bag?! Idiot!! ...anyways, the shortest job I ever had was about three hours long. I applied for a job as a bus boy at a restaurant. I interviewed, filled out all the paperwork, watched a safety video, and they sent me.....to the dish room.... After three hours of washing dishes I was told to go out and pick up the trash in the parking lot. I went outside, put my apron on the newspaper machine, and just bolted...didn't even pick up my check.
Ha, sucker. You only lasted 3 hours as a dishwasher. I went for a full 9 days before I quit. The job sucked. I never worked in the food industry again.
My first job was at age 15 at a pizza parlor. Since I was underage, they didn't have to pay me minimum wage. This was in 1976. I believe minimum wage at the time was something like $3.25/hour. They paid me $1.75 an hour. I found this out on my second day, so each day afterwards, during my break, I made a huge pizza with everything on it, ate a few slices, and took the rest home. They fired me a week later.
I did that at Borders last spring. Couldn't handle missing Astros games and golf outings on the weekend. So, one Saturday, I picked golf and baseball.
Pippen First Game: Feb 5th, 1999 Last Playoff Game: May 15th, 1999 Miguel First day of Work: Jan 17th, 2005 Last day of work: May 26th, 2005 I lasted 30 days longer than Quitten. Sorry. I win.
Lots of corporate tycoons and leaders of industry in this thread. I've never worked in the restaurant business... what's so hard about washing dishes? I know it's boring as hell, but what else?
Then you've never really worked. OK......maybe that's a stretch, but restaurants--at least busy ones--are HARD work. Even for the dishwasher.
Especially for the dishwasher. When I was a bus boy at Outback in high school, I had the pleasure of doing that duty a couple of Saturday nights. It was horrendous. Almost pulled a Miguel.
Oh no, let's not start that. I don't want to have my name associated with "pulling a _____" "What the hell? you were making 14 bucks an hour? Why'd you pull a Miguel?"
ME TOO!!! I QUIT!!! AFTER TOMORROW, I SHALL REFUSE TO WORK FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS. IF THEY WANT ME WHEN I DECIDE TO GO BACK...IN ABOUT THREE MONTHS...THEY CAN HAVE ME.
Worked at a dry cleaner for about a week when I was 15ish then drop that crap.. I stuck to cutting grass, atleast I could make own hours and didnt have to have a boss to worry about..I also worked at Applebees for a short time in college and quit that job after a week, my boss was a total b****..
And just so you know, yes, the inevitable "I need a job" thread will be coming around Wednesday afternoon.
After I left Enterprise Rent A Car, I worked for a very small rental company inside a Toyota dealership. On my first day, they told me they were promoting me to manager before the end of the week. The old manager had left the place in complete shambles. I went home for my lunch break, unplugged the phone, and never went back...
Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour in the Nortwest Mall. 3 whole days as a Dishwasher/Busboy, then they asked me to clean up the Garbage. I walked out.
