Last year when we drafted him, I think he was 6'9". Last I heard was that he was either 6'10 or 6'11. But I kept hearing that he was probably going to grow to 7'0". Please update if you have any info. Yao Ming-7'6" with shoes (5.5 blocks a year, yeah baby!!!) Eddie Griffin-7'0" with shoes (5 blocks a year, yeah!!!!) Maurice Taylor-6'9" (a big body to throw at Shaq) Mobley-6'4" (pretty much is a pure shooter) Francis-6'3" (but he plays bigger above the rim)
First thing we have to find out is did Griffin even continue to grow. Seton Hall had him at 6'9", and this photo looks like he's still 6'9". TMo and MoT look taller, imo. <img src="http://www.nba.com/media/rockets/02team_photo.jpg">
Hey partner, you're right!! Griffin looks shorter than Terrence Morris and Maurice Taylor. Have the Rockets been lying to us all along? The only thing I did notice was that he was sloutching!!
I don't know, his shoulders looks maybe 1/2 inch higher than TMo's or MoT's to me. It is harder to judge their head height because of EG's hair and the black background. If I had to guess I would say EG's height is like 6'9.5" One thing is fore sure, EG doesn't look at all like a center next to Willis or Collier.
Have the Rockets been lying to us all along? It wasn't really the Houston management that said stuff like that. It was the draft prognosticators.
Taylor looks like a man beast in the picture. What a perfect NBA body!!! And I agree with the Langhi height. Geez, that guy is a legit 7'0"er. Too bad he's never been able to take advantage of his tremendous physical size. But we did have our dream of him being our backup shooting guard last summer!!! Ha, him effectivley guarding mobley! Now that was funny. And you are right, Griffin can not be our center. I don't think he could be our power forward, he doens't have the body. It goes back to one of my previous topics, Griffin looks like the ideal SF. Does anyone know if he could be our SF on a permanent basis?
Kenny Thomas doesn't look much shorter that MoT but everyone calls him a tweener. Does he have short arms or is he standing on his tippy toes becuase I don't see it.
why is everyone so concerned w/ his height, when it's his bulk that has me questioning his ability to be an effective, all-star, power foward. He's plenty tall. Last I heard he was 6'10", but has the potential to be a legit 7 footer. He needs about 20 pounds of muscle. How 'bout he goes and takes some lessons at the Jared Jeffries school of weight gaining, so you can play better in the NBA.
When I was at Tonic last tuesday and stood next to him, i can say he's right about 6'10. I'm 6'4 1/2 and being able to judge a 7ft guy is pretty easy for me. Normally the middle of my head is a the guys shoulders or somewhere around there. I can say griffin is still about 6'10.
Funny how Cato is not even standing up. And Collier got the center position inthe picture. That surprised me.
Look at the picture closely. EG is sloutching. TMo and MoT are standing as tall as they can, especially TMo. I can buy that EG would be 6'10" if he stands up straight. That said, he needs to gain a lot of muscle if he wants to be a 6'10" center, a la Mourning. I don't see it.
You have to look at their shoulders and arm length to judge NBA height. Look specifically at Lanky he has a really long neck but unless you block shots with your forehead how high your head is off the ground don't mean squat. What is important is how high your shoulders are off the ground, how wide your shoulders are and how long your arms are. Hilario has really wide shoulders and a 7'4" wing span, thats why the scouts are drooling over his "NBA body".
Griff appears shorter than our 7 footers in the photo, but photos can be deceiving. Back to his talent improving... I'd personally like to see him working on his low post game for the times he is slated to play the 4, but more than that I hope he is working on his ball handling for the all the time he is playing the 3 (which I think is where Rudy really wants him if Taylor is healthy) and parked on the perimeter waiting for a pass. I noticed early last year he never takes more than one dribble to reposition himself for a jumper. I honestly can't remember him ever taking more than one dribble to go past someone for an easy shot in the lane, dunk, lay-up etc. Now granted after his one dribble he was pretty consistent with his jumper, but add some slashing to the basket with his size and we have our 3 right here under our noses.
