Got to run fast to a workout (seriously late) but going to post this on the site later tonight... Moiso is a serious darkhorse candidate at #9. Better than the Rockets expected -- in terms of his moves around the basket and how he'd fit the team he may have exceed expectations. Miles -- as good as advertised. Going to be a few years before he's a major impact player but might be just that. Would take an Act of God to be there at #9. Got to run .... ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
I knew Moiso would come through! Thanks for info! ------------------ Check out the new and improved Draftsource.net
Weird...I don't always admit this, and being that I stand politically and socially somewhere to the right of center, I don't put that much stock in it anyways...but sometimes I get these "feelings" about things. I'm not always right, but I'm right often enough to scare me sometimes. Anyway, I got this feeling today that Moiso is our man at the nine. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
Moiso? Is he the kid out of UCLA? I have heard he is a sleeper. I wonder if Rudy T and CD are up to their old tricks? DaDakota ------------------
DaDakota- Yeah that's him. I really like him too. He's 6'11 with unlimited athletic ability and a number of good low post moves. I think his ceiling is really high, and that being said, I would love for the Rockets to pick him. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
Steve Lavin (his coach at UCLA) was quoted as saying he has the most potential in the draft (I'll try and find it, I dunno where I saw it). Pretty scary. Moiso is athletic big man with a soft mid range jump shooting touch. He's a face up type of player, with that out of the building type of athleticism, and is a legit PF. Some even say he can play spells at center and SF as well. He's the real deal, and if our pick came down to Moiso or Miller, Moiso all the way. Moiso vs. Dermarr Johnson (SICK workouts) would be tough, and Moiso vs. Miles would likely go to Miles. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
I'm kind of hoping we pick Moiso, unless there's a no-brainer still on the board. He just sounds like a perfect fit to me. ------------------
It appears every day that Darius Miles will not be on the board come #9. I'm sorry to sound so pessimistic, but if Mike Miller is gone by the #9, I would not hesitate to trade the pick. I'm not impressed by the talent [after the top guys] in this year's crop. I don't understand all the hoopla surrounding Moiso on this board. I wasn't impressed by Jerome Moiso one bit this basketball season. He lacks fire and confidence, and it seems to me he is just another athletic big man with raw talent. What's so intriguing about him? There is no excuse for him to not be a solid college defender, with his size. And no, I'm not about to buy this, "he'll grow out of it. Just wait, he'll become a good defender..." crap. Playing defense comes from the inside. It's something you have to 'want' to do. Sure, extra bulk will help in the long run, but the desire has to be there from the start. As for the other draftees: I like Swift and think he will be a special player. However, damn it will be close to impossible to move up to get him. I'm not too worried about Kenyon Martin's height. I think his quickness and explosive leaping ability should make up for it. I do not think Marcus Fizer will become more than a solid backup. He's about 6'7, but he doesn't seem to have the bouncy athletic ability of a Charles Barkley [to make up for the height]. However, he does seem to have a nice perimeter touch, and he can drive the ball. Pig Miller is an upgrade over Chris Mihm. Hell, Marcus Fizer wiped the floors with him, and I don't even think too highly of Marcus. I've only seen Darius Miles only in McDonald's All-Star action, so I can't accurately judge him from one single account. However, I liked what I saw. Joel Pryzbilla. LOL. That just about tells you the state of big men in the league today. I love Mike Miller. He's not flashy, nor does he have a 40" vertical (as it seems like that's the only thing some of you use to gauge talent.) Miller can put the ball on the floor, and is just an overall court-smart player. I already gave my opinion on Moiso. I'm not impressed by him at all. DerMarr Johnson: DerMarr's a horrible defender, so you can put the Tracy McGrady comparisons to rest. Actually, I don't understand the McGrady comparisons at all. They are two completely different players. Folks, just because they are both 6'9 and slender does not mean they are similar players. McGrady primarily operates above the rim, while Johnson does most of his damage shooting the '3'. [This message has been edited by thacabbage (edited June 05, 2000).]
I'm going to side with The cabbage patch on this. I praying to God that we pass on Moiso. I think he's more likely to become the next Samaki Walker or Tony Battie, rather than the next Shawn Kemp. I want to draft someone that has dominated games on the collegiate level( I might make an exception for Miles). Moiso has never shown that. I'd take the sure thing over the potentially next big thing every day. Because the next big thing never usually works out. ------------------
The Rockets did say that Moiso exceeded their expectations in the workouts... Seems like they like him. ------------------ treasurer of the moochie norris fan club
Maybe they had reallly low expectations? DaDakota - on my way to 1000, if I can't lose weight this summer, this seems like a reasonable goal. ------------------
I don't think the Rock's will say anything nice about the person they want in the draft. I think they will leak all sorts of misleading information to get who they want. Rudy always suprises us, we're always disappointed, and we always end up eating our words when that player turns out to be a steal. This year, for a change, I will be ecstatic about who the Rocket's draft. I will start many threads praising the secret genious of Rudy & CD. That way when the player ends up on the all-rookie team I can pull a Skypilot and claim to have been right all along. ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
So, Rocketsauce, whose the secret candidate this year from all of your gleanings? ------------------ There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count and those who can't.

I'm always skeptical of "workout warriors" that haven't actually produced that much in competition. The NFL is the absolute worst at this and it seems that the NBA is heading there. I'm probably in the minority, but individual, private workouts just seem to be a silly way to evaluate a multi-million dollar investment. I know that's not the only way teams evaluate, but when I hear that a player's stock soars or, in Fizer's case, falls after one team workout, it makes me wonder what team's college scouts do all year. ------------------
I remember Rudy saying good things about MD. Rudy said nice things about Turcan. ------------------ "You've got 6 fouls, use them well" -Derrick Coleman
grummett, could you elaborate on the Fizer stock some more. If I have any more predictions in me, it would be that Fizer falls to #9. That's based purely on intuition from watching other drafts. Please don't argue with me. I know nothing about this crop of college athletes. Really....I know nothing about them. I watched probably a grand total of 35 minutes of the NCAA tourny, and absolutely no regular season games. But, I still say Fizer falls...hehe. (All 35 minutes were watching him.) The way people on this board rave about Moises, why are they still saying he falls below Fizer. I don't get it. How many NBA stars can one draft produce? [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited June 06, 2000).]
heypartner-- I read that Fizer's Orlando workout did not go well. He also measured several inches shorter than his reported height. For the life of me, I can't remember where I read that, but that was the gist of the article. Sorry. Btw, living in Iowa, I got to see several of Fizer's games and he was a man among boys in the games I saw. Admittedly, I don't watch much college ball either so my crystal ball that says that Fizer will be a flat out bust in the NBA is a little cloudy. ------------------
hp-I'd consider Moiso to be a better long term prospect than Fizer. I think Fizer may have a case for ROY this yeah along with Alexander, and Martin, and MAYBE Swift. Swift and Moiso still have things to work on, and I feel long term they'll be better. Your prediction I think actually has a chance of coming true. A small chance, maybe 5%, but still a chance. BTW-I read in an article somewhere (it was either a Denver or an Orlando article) that June 14 is in fact the official date for conveying draft picks. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
