Last season, I went to my first (and last, so far) Rockets game when Orlando came to town. Watching the game live was cool at first (and when I say cool, I mean cool as in totally sweet ), probably because of the novelty of it all, but as the game went on, something didn't seem right, like something was missing, and that was a live call of the game. My question is this: If I was to watch a Rockets game live at the Laptop, what if I wanted to also hear the call by Gene and Jim on the radio? If I brought in a walman AM radio (with some headphones of course), would the signal come in clear while sitting in Compaq Center? Has anyone tried this before? It would be so much better to actually know what's going on in the game. Watching the game with no call is kinda sucky, it was so quiet in there. Even if it wasn't quiet and the crowd was going wild, I still don't think you can get the full game experience without a live call of the game (sitting right behind the Rockets bench or courtside notwithstanding)
What is this from? I remember it from tv somewhere but it's bugging me that I can't remember. About bringing a radio to the game. I think the reception in the compaq center is ok. I've heard of other people doing this before.
I've brought in a walkman to listen to Jim Peterson call the game but my walkman didn't pick up the signal. I thought I just had a cheap walkman, so I bought another but still couldn't get a clear signal. Maybe at the new staduim each seat will have an audio jack with a feed from 610. put that on the x-mas wishlist.
It just depends on where you are in the arena. I bring my to every game. I dont get the best reception but I can hear good enough. I am always giving updates to the folks around me. I like to hear the stats during the game and explanations on what is going on in the game,
Doubtful However, I think they will be putting repeaters into the new building (a la MMP), improving reception for those bringing radios into the building.
We're actually in the process of installing a repeater antenna inside the arena for those who want to pick up the radio broadcast while at the game. We don't have a firm date on installation yet, but we've been told it will be operational sometime in the first half of January. We'll move the equipment with us to the new arena, of course. Tim
That sounds great! It sounds even better with Jim and Gene. They're great! I saw them in New Orleans a few weeks back and they were fantastic as well as very nice. Hey Tim, what would be involved in getting a job with the Rockets? I'm just curious because I am very interested in possibly doing something with the organization. I'm about to head off to college; maybe there's a specific area I should study? And I bid good luck to the Rockets now and in the future! Anyway, great idea for the better reception!
Like, totally awesome, dude. Thanks for the scoop, Tim. I've always wondered about this, and now I know.
Real Ultimate Power I think is what you're thinking of. Love that site. Me and my friend are actually in one of the "sightings" pictures.
I have this walkman/radio and some earbuds that I take to the games. Works GREAT!! I only put one earphone in at a time, giving me the ability to hear the stadium well, but still get the calls from Gene and Jim. The thing is, you have to hold the radio at a certain angle to get reception that is good. Not a problem, just sit it on your leg and it works perfectly. I love listening to the game while watching it -- gives you a really neat experience. Sounds AWESOME Tim. That's gonna make this even better!!
