Alright guys, so I'm a freshmen at the best college in the world, the University of Texas, where I've been staying at the Jester dorm. And next year, I'm going to get an apartment with 3 of my friends. I know many of ya bbsers went there and some current. So any suggestions on what apartment we should get? Preferably on Riverside, where it's cheap (because we're cheap, broke, and ghetto as well ). And on average how much did utility cost ya per person? The four ones we're interested in so far are (all pre-furnished): The Ballpark (Jefferson Commons) - $335 w/o utility (4/2) and $370 w/o utility (4/4) Longhorn Landing - $340 w/o utility (4/2), $425 (4/2 with special utility package) Campus Estate - $364 w/o utility (4/4) University Village (Crossing Place) - $423 (4/4 including utility) Thanks in advanced.
Whoops, I messed up my thread title. Moderators would you change it to "Questions About UT Apartments" for me please? Thanks, sorry about that guys.
So you're going the separate lease, pre-furnished route? I've heard bad things about going that way, but it should be okay as long as your buddies are stable enough that one of them doesn't bail. If they do, the landlord has to rent the empty room to a total stranger. Good times. Man, I don't think I could share an apartment with 3 other dudes. I guess I'm getting too old. As far as Riverside goes, make sure you get rental insurance. You or your roommates will have their car broken into, guaranteed, and you might get robbed. Also, I've had at least one friend who lived on Riverside and lost everything to an apartment fire. You get what you pay for, and what you save in rent on Riverside will probably be made up for in lost property, hospital visits, and lost sleep due to rude, partying neighbors. Then again, you're 19. Live it up!
My parents wouldn't let me live on Riverside. I had to live in West Campus, but I was at my friends' place on Riverside all the time.
get a 4/4..and if u absolutely must have a furnished place..i guess riverside is the only way to go..i actually stayed in a 4/4 in crossing place..and it was fine.. this was the 1st year they were open ..i decided to live in north campus the year after that..and then west campus my senior year...after living closer i could never go back to riverside
prices sure have dropped. surprising. What about the other Jefferson Commons? The one right next to Ballpark..I forget the name. It's a couple of years newer. Don't listen to all the hate. I lived on Riverside for 3 years. No car break-ins, no apt break-ins (though I would still recommend renter's insurance to be safe..can be added on your parents' home-owner's insurance). Of course, friends who lived in the more ghetto complexes had issues like that. So I'd try to stay at the newer places..
Ive lived at the Village, Campus Estates, and the Ballpark, all in riverside. Ballpark is the best, hands down.
im a UT student living at campus estates right now...don't live there, it's such a dump. apartments are huge, good value for the money...but the place is too big, and too dirty. if i were you, i would stay away from any apartment complexes on crossing place. not to mention the crossing place bus route is always PACKED. so, i would probably go with ballpark. its cleaner, and the north riverside bus route is a lot better (if youre planning to take the bus, that is.) however, the rooms at the ballpark seem to be smaller than those of surrounding complexes.
I'll second that sentiment. Campus Estates parties... good times. I live in the middle of nowhere (Far West) which is really safe but far away from everything. But Riverside is fine, don't worry about everyone who says its unsafe. It's better than West Campus. personally, I always like North Campus but the apartments there are really old so if you're going to live up there, I'd go with renting a house.
jefferson commons at town lake is probably the nicest out of the riverside apartments, but the walls are pretty thin.
I lived on Riverside for 2 years. Can't remember the name of the place. Lived in a 4/2 with separate leases. Didn't know my roommates on all three of the moves I made. Everything worked out fine. Utilities were separate and everyone always paid their share. If you got it with utilities paid you wouldn't have to worry about that though. Great fun those days. I should go back with the Hazelwood act and do it all over again!!!!
I lived in an efficiency in Hyde Park for 350.00/month. Terrific complex by the post office. I shared a townhouse w/ someone in W. Campus for 400.00/month. There are also apartments down Red River.
i am graduating after fall 2007 from UT. I really do not know anybody else who is only staying for one semester so I was wondering if there were any places where I could get that short of a lease (about 4 months). thanks, and sorry for stealing part of your thread charliemurphy
Thanks for all the advice guys. Right now it's between the Ballpark ($365 including utility for 4/2) and Crossing Place ($423 including utility for 4/4). Crossing Place looks really nice, my friends and I absolutely love it but it's a bit pricey compared to the Ballpark. Campus Estates looks nice too but I heard a lot of bad stuff about it like sh*tty ass management. So should I save $700 a year and go with Ballpark or go for Crossing Place? Haha, I don't mind...it's cool with me.
have you checked out university canyon on oltorf? i like that place, im thinking of living there starting next fall
Live at The Trace...It's the first stop on the Crossing Place bus, so you never have to worry about the bus being to packed (which always happens to people at Campus Estates since it's at the end of the street). It's by far the nicest place on Riverside...every unit is the same (4 bedroom, 4 bathroom) and they run for $1600 a month ($400/person) for a 9-month lease. The only thing is, there's no sales office since it's technically a condo, not an apartment, but let me know if you're interested and I can give you contact info. for my realtor.
have u looked at the university commons? $325 month per person for a 9 month lease in a 4/2...utilities, which is electricity, come out to be around 85-100 bucks so u end up payin like $350 after all bills paid
University Commons? That place is a dump -> it's been tore up year after year, since I was an undergrad starting back in 1998. I lived at the following places: 98-99: Jester 99-00: College Park (now Longhorn Landing) -> total dump, high crime 00-01: Sterling Univ. Canyon (now Univ Canyon) -> nice spot, no complaints, brand new 01-02: Sterling Univ. Canyon (now Univ Canyon) -> still nice and new Fall 02: Greystone Park (Far West) -> nightmare, dilapidated place
