JVG has no idea how to adjust his game plan alone with the other team's game plan. He made all players prepare a lot before the game; however; one's his plan is not working, he can't react fast enough to change the out come of the game.

    1. it's clear that Timberwolves came into tonight's game plan is to let someone other than Yao to beat them. With them leaving Chuck Hayes open almost every position, why didn't he put his favor player Scott Padgett on the court to give some rooms for Yao? I know Padgett can't guard KG, but who in this league can guard KG one on one anyway?

    2. We are playing the second half of the back to back game, with 2:06 left in the game Houston had the ball and only down 5 points, why didn't him call a timeout so he can call some plays and let Yao get some rest too?

It doesn't matter what the coach does. If your two best players go 5-19 and 5-21 respectively, it is going to be nearly impossible to win. Its amazing they didn't get blown out.

If it's his fault we lost tonight then he gets credit for winning last night. Funny how it comes down to players making shots...think about it

It always looks that way after a loss.

Still, I was perturbed that JVG felt Juwan Howard "gave them the best chance to win" late in the fourth quarter. Juwan was playing poor defense most of the game and did absolutely nothing positive on the offensive end where we were struggling the most (0 for 5 from the field, 2 turnovers, 0 offensive rebounds). That pissed me off. He should have stuck with Chuck Hayes or just gone to the small lineup (Battier at PF) sooner.

Terrible thread title, by the way.

I have been saying the same thing in the other thread.

The T-Pups ignored Hayes....and if Juwan could find his midrange jumper he might actually be an asset instead of a liabilty.

Hayes was good in the first quarter and great on D as always, but when the T-pups went to a quasi zone and left him WIDE open from 12 feet, he is not competent enough to hit that shot.

A little run for Padgett & or Novak would have forced the Timberwolves out of that strategy and opened it up more for Yao on the low block.

But, JVG is not a coach who recognizes things in game, he recognizes them on tape AFTER the game.

Wow...those were two very strange first-posts, each in its own way.

but why did Yao go 5-19? didn't that have something to do with KG completely ignoring Hayes and focusing on Yao? why did T-Mac go 5-21? that couldn't have anything to do with the TWolves playing zone, could it?

that's why in hindsight, Battier should have started at PF, T-Mac at SF and Head at SG, or at least in the second half when it was already starting to look very ugly for Yao and T-Mac. Battier and Head would have stretched the defense making it easier for Yao to operate inside and for T-Mac to drive to the hoop. then the Twolves would have to be the ones to adjust for a change.

our two stars stinking it up was the problem...if they put 40% of thier shots in the basket we would have won...

although JVG makes too many mistakes for my liking... even though he wasnt the main culprit in the defeat yesterday

it's kinda rediculous how every loss goes on JVG. t mac had a terrible shooting night. JVG realized that chuckie was open from 15 feet, so he put in j-ho, and while j-ho is terrible, i'm pretty sure that the 15 foot elbow extend jumper is the only shot he's ever hit in his career...he's just supposed to actually hit some.

and don't expect a defensive coach like jvg to put in novak or padgett, because either of those players would be KG poster fodder. and while battier might be able to slow KG a little bit, the big ticket just too strong, and there isn't any way battier can rebound with him..wheras juwon, based on his past couple of games, should have been able to grab some boards and sink some jumpers to clear some high/low space for yao. he just couldn't hit, niether could t-mac, and we lose. bad shooting, not bad coaching. the most important thing when behind in a basketball game, the MOST IMPORTANT THING is stopping the other team from scoring. chuckie/juwon are our best chances to do that. JVG plays padgett, KG dominates him, and everyone on this board shouts "JVG IS DOMB, HE THINKS PADGETT CAN GAURD KG!"

however, jvg COULD have gone small and gone zone...which may have been the best option of all. we need to work on that zone he said we'd try a little more to give us some more options late in games.

well said. to JVG's defense, he is one of the best in the league at preparing his team for the game. it's usually a half time, or 2nd qtr adjustment by the opposing team that JVG never recovers from.

on that last play (the one which rafer chucked), why didn't JVG put novak out there coming out of the timeout.

weather we scored or not, we would've fouled them. novak wouldn't have had to play any defense. gundy could've even subbed him out for hayes so we can be assured of the rebound. then call timeout and put him back in.

i didn't understand that at all.

also, against the wolves zone, it would've been nice to get padgett out there for 5 minutes instead of letting hayes be a liability. one or two shots by scotty could've been the difference maker in the game.

Wow I read so much here as far as suggestions for substitutions Gundy could have done that I agree with. But Gundy is smarter than all of us put together so I will stop whining and crawl back into my hole and whimper until the next game.

Why can we not all see how omnipotent Gundy really is??? Let's just shut down the forum and all send Gundy thank you cards for showing us the golden way.

what I don't understand is.... Chuck's free throw form.. wth is that? I find myself laughing everytime I see it. hehe Someone has got to tell him that form is totally wrong.. I don't think he will ever get a mid range jump shot after seeing how he shoots ft's.

The odd thing is... people have been telling him its wrong.. for the last five years... at least. :) He supposedly worked on it during the offseason, but I don't know the hitch is just as pronounced as before.

Tell ya what, buy me a ticket to Houston and get me to the practice court.. and I will teach him how to do it correctly! ;)
