I was curious to know will he attend media day and start training camp with us or does he have to wait on Golden State so that the contract can be finalized. Also, I wonder will this move light a fire under Cato and what happens to Mo next year when he returns with Griffin having a year of experience?

Locking up Mo and Marc to long contracts means that they feel Griffin's future is at the 3 and not the 4 like alot of scouts were saying.

I don't agree at all. I think when Rudy T and CD locked up Mo they envisioned him and Eddie playing the forward spots with out a clearly defined power or small forward. I think defensively speaking the Rockets still plan on Eddie playing close to the basket for rebounding and shot blocking.

Marc Jackson is a power forward/center. I think if Cato fails to step up significantly then you will see MJ primarily at the 5 spot. With Cato's inability to stay out of foul trouble I think you will see a lot of line ups that have Rice, Griffin and Jackson maning the front court. I also think you will see Cato and Griffin in the low post together quite a bit because of their ability for the two of them to block shots and possibly change the course of the game defensively.

Best case scenario for the Rockets at this point is to have MJ's increadible work ethic rub off on Cato so that he can relize his potential. MJ could then come off the bench filling in for Griffin or Cato. This would give us an exceptional 3 man low post rotation similar to our 3 man guard rotation of Steve, Cat and Moochie. I know...Cato relizing his potential is a big if.

When Mo comes back next year I see him playing more of a 3 spot than a four. But with so many players that seem to be able to play more than one position Rudy T can use him according to the match up. I think Mo's versitility gives him a lot of value in the Rudy T system at either forward spot.

Don't the Warriors have two weeks to match?

The Warriors have 15 days to match it. The Chronicle reported that the Rockets are already in talks to maybe add incentives so that the Warriors won't match it. I'm wondering if it's something along the lines of a 2nd round pick.

Marc Jackson put it best (from the Houston Chronicle) :

This part confuses me, because it reads like it is illegal.

That is pretty straightforward isn't it??? It almost seems like Jonathan Feigan or his team source goofed and leaked some info they weren't supposed to. Notice Feigan doesn't actually quote anyone when he mentions this. I wonder if CD is pissed with him.

I was wondering about this too. If this is true about GS not being allowed to receive compensation, what forms might an 'underhanded' deal take?

I don't want to see Moochie go. I hope he takes 12 mil. over 4 years. In my opinion, if he's not signed within 24 hours of GS opting not to match the Rockets' offer, I think something's wrong, and he's going somewhere in a S&T.

Would it be possible for the Rockets to speak to Golden State and, if they determine GS will match, offer them a draft pick in a sign and trade for the same amount? I don't know much about it but it would seem this could be a likely scenario.

No doubt ! They might consider exploring a sign and trade with Warriors. It's just a matter of how much the Rockets want Marc Jackson in the rosters.

this scenario has been tossed around before, and if I remember correctly, the cap experts round here said the Warriors could not go over the cap to sign and trade him. They can go over the cap to resign him though. So however much money GS has left below the cap is how much they could sign and trade him for(which is not much at all). I doubt Jackson would be happy with a piddly 1 mill or couple hundred thousand a year based on the size of the contract we offered him.

It's the waiting game all over again. And I am concerned with the point that crispee is bringing up. Based on Stern's reaction to the Joe Smith debacle, should the NBA find proof of the Rocks negotiating with GS over Jax, I wouldn't doubt that they would consider voiding his contract and possibly worse.
