Assuming we're over the cap next year, what is the max we can offer Daniels when his contract expires in 2015? Really believe he's setup well to get 15-20 minutes a game this season, and would hate to lose him to a team with a lot of cap space. We won't have his bird rights, but I believe you can offer more than the minimum to a player on a two year contract.
The Rockets will have Early Bird rights on Daniels and could essentially offer him a full MLE-sized deal in 2015, which would be separate from any MLE that they'd otherwise be able to use on other free agents. Furthermore, if Daniels somehow merited a contract above the full Non-Taxpayer MLE level (which I doubt at this point), he would fall within the Gilbert Arenas Rule as a free agent. Could someone throw a "poison pill" offer sheet at Daniels that would be painful to match? Sure. But I doubt he will be the level of free agent that Asik or Lin were in 2012.
