The question is, how many true centers do we have on our team?

David Andersen? No his true position is PF.
Chuck Hayes? Although Chuck has always been our backup 5, he really isn't a true center.
Jordan Hill? No his true position also is PF.

The answer to this is one(1). Yao Ming.
Yet we clamor and yell and cheer to get yet, another PF when it is so obvious what position we lack. Two years obvious i believe.

This year, finally get what is needed. I kind of hope that we don't get any of these free agents, so that we would be forced to get what we need. Abackup center. A REAL one. ;)

And your suggestions for a true backup center would be?......

    Camby?
    B. Miller?
    Goratat?
    Shaq?

I agree. Backup center is definately a need, but making these guys a priority over other possible upgrades is not the correct thought process right now.

We need to focus on using our assets and getting all-star talent. That is our #1 priority and why morey is busting his genius wizard butt trying to make that happen. The backup C position can be addressed after the initial rat race.

Yeah, when all the good backup centers are gone and we are stuck with another David Andersen.

Rockets fans really need to wise up and recognize that Brad Miller is simply better than Chris Bosh or Lebron James or whoever else. Every night before I go to sleep - around 6pm - I pray we don't get Lebron so we can focus on who we really need. Brad Miller.

Gortat. He is a legit center that has years ahead of him. Camby is taken and because of age I think remains better than Shaq/B.Miller at this point of their careers.

MLE for such a center would be a great deal imo.

Ok so you pointed our problem what's your solution? I don't want bosh either but if we did have to play bosh at center he would be better than the majority of the real centers out there. I understand why everyone wants Bosh but i dont wanna give up to much to get him. At the same time I understand his value and if we can get him at the right price, he would be great.

Exactly what i'm talking about. Someone like Brad, Gortat, M. Gasol, Thabeet. Since alot of us are so big on giving away assets, lets give them away for a position we lack.

Any backup center we get (Miller, Shaq) will likely be with the MLE. It's independent of trying to land someone like Bosh. Not getting one of those free agents will not force the Rockets to do anything they weren't already planning on doing regarding a backup center.

Yup, yup. I think if we put together an attractive enough package (Budinger, Hill, 2 Knicks Picks, maybe even Martin), Chicago might consider a S&T for Brad Miller. It's a longshot, sure, simply because this guy is a legitimate superstar, but we have to try to throw everything at him. He's the missing piece.

Its just that we have a good young core of players and it would be a waste to have to trade any of them for a player that we really don't need.

If we got Marc Gasol along with a big time all star like Bosh...

That's a matter of opinion. My opinion is that the team we currently have is good, but isn't a serious threat to win the title. Adding a backup center doesn't change that. Adding another all star has the potential to make us a title contender and I have faith in Morey that whatever depth is lost to land a marquee free agent will be replenished relatively quickly. And you can still add a backup center if you want to.

If we don't give up too much, EXCELLENT!!
