as I live abroad, I was hoping I could receive some valuable input from my fellow bbsers:

Anyone know of sites where I can call on-line from Europe to US. I have done this in the past with ease (in approx. 2000 - though I can't remember the web address). Unfortunately, my searches on google and yahoo did not reveal any free (easy to use sites).

    Many thanks

Skype is the biggest one that I know of. You would have to get your friends in Europe to download the program as well and you could call over it.

    http://www.skype.com/

Google introduced their own program called google talk that supposedly does the same thing. I've tried it within my house and it worked fine but then again, that's within my house.

    Thanks Geeimxxx and Xenoxxx

I would like to call from my computer on line to a local phone number direct (Europe to Houston); I am not intending to call computer to computer.

I did this in approx 2000 with ease and cost free. Shall anyone have tips, I would be grateful!!

i don't think there are any programs that are free anymore. Yahoo charges .02 a minute. Not too shabby.

    Thanks SG

I'll look into this. It's actually not as much about the money - it's more about the convenience.

Yea these programs disappeared like the free dial up internet trend a few years ago.

Remember when netzero said everyone had a right to the internet...

Use Skype. That's how I talk to my folks who are in Saudi.

I put $10 into it to call a friend's TELEPHONE in Bulgaria, and I get like 5cents a minute.

When I was in Italy last semester, I used a calling card that I bought in the US to call home. It was really cheap, something like $0.07/minute.

Well if you want to call pc to landline

    use voipstunt
or voipbuster, last time i checked, it was free calls to us, so just install it and call free.

alternately you might wanna look into getting a voip line such as packet 8 or vonage and taking it back overseas for free calls across the us.

There used to be a site called DialPad, but I think they charge now.

    Otherwise, I used calling cards.
